How to do the Fog Light Anytime mod but with the headlights?

In other words, I want to do this mod but I do NOT want my fog lights to come on with the ignition because I don't want to have to worry about turning them on and off. If the mod makes them come on whenever the ignition is on they will basically be on all day long if I always leave the switch on. What I want is for my fog lights to come on with the headlights the way they currently do but I do NOT want them turning off when I kick the brights on. Would I just tap a different wire when I do the Fog Lights Anytime mod?

This is how i did mine. I can turn the switch on or off like normal so its not hooked up directly to the ignition. If i turn my running lights on I can have the fogs only on and they also stay on with the brights. I believe this is what your looking at doing.

 

I think I didn't explain it real well. I know the modification doesn't automatically turn them on but it DOES require you to manually turn the switch on and off unless you want them on 24/7 whenever you turn your truck on. This isn't what I want. What I'm looking for is 'fogs staying on with bright lights' so maybe I should have titled the thread that. This way I can leave my fog light switch on and not have them in the daytime when the headlights aren't on.

I want my fogs to behave exactly as they do from the factory other than staying on with the brights. Will this achieve this goal? I don't want them to come on w/o the headlights the way they currently do. Still connected to the headlight circuit so they come on with the headlights (if the switch is on) and stay on when the high beams are triggered. I'm going to be swapping out my fogs for an HID kit and don't want them going on/off all the time between flipping my brights on and off. I just want them to stay on whenever the headlights are on.

 

in other words, you dont necessarily want the fog light anytime mod but you want your fogs to stay on when you flip your brights on just like when you have the mod? correct?

id have to mess with the relay and see what exactly will allow it to happen

 

Yes, that about sums it up. Something in the relay tells the fogs to shut off when it gets a signal from the brights. It would seem that a fella could simply disconnect this portion to have it not interrupt the circuit or something.

 

I figured it out. I will post up a DIY with photos when I have time for those looking for this answer to this.

 

If done properly they shouldnt be able to turn them on without ignition on. If you tap the wrong wire then they can be turned on at anytime even with ignition off.

The way mine are wired. The fogs only come on when I turn my headlights on. I can also turn them on or off with the switch when my headlights are on. They also stay on with the brights. I can also use them as fogs only if I turn the light switch to the middle running/tails.

I was going to do it the way your write up but didn't want to melt my wires. Although now I have hids in fog and headlights so shouldn't have been a problem. Good job on finding another way!

 

Thanks man. I really don't think it would be an issue even with halogen bulbs. They will draw more current but the wiring and circuits are all capable of handling WAY more so I really don't think it will be an issue at all. I just wanted to warn others of the potential danger even though I don't think it will happen.
