Does the engine " recalculate " the firing rate when the spark plugs are changed ?

My first tank after new plugs was terrible , my second tank is pretty much back to normal , weather and driving patterns have been consistent between both tanks .

Oneshot - see Chris' guide on SP for your engine...I would go with Denso as they are the original plugs and a whole lot cheaper.

Chris-what do you torque yours to? Torqued mine to 15 lbs and they were easy as hell to break loose when I rechecked them. Didn't bother with torque this last time. Just tightened them good and mpg problem solved.

whats your opinion on E3 diamond fires? i saw on a show on the speed channel where they were doing research on it at the university of michigan and it showed more powerful sparks. as for consistency im not too sure but it looked legit. i've tried them on my 2005 xB and they improved gas mileage by about 1 or so mpg and the pick up from stop was slightly increased but not by enough for me to get by anything.

Did my plugs couple weeks ago. Went with Denso from Toyota. Gap came at .43 but two needed to be corrected after check. Plugs coming out on pass side were Denso with wear down to .51. Driver side plugs were ngk coming out with significant more wear than the Denso at .60. All the post helped me decide on what plugs to use. Hopefully this post helps someone. It's gonna always be Denso for me. Mpg,smoothness, and sound are much better. Thanks again. Tacos stick together and help each other out on the road. Esp. In traffic. Have a good one.

I torque mine to between 15 and 17 lbs/ft. You only need enough torque to crush the gasket. They wont come out.
Most gains felt from a different plug, are due to the old plugs being worn, and simply replaced with new. Electricity follows the path of least resistance, so if you have a plug with 1 ground, or 40,000 grounds, you will only get 1 spark. In all the plugs I have tried, the OEM Denso plugs seem to have the best performance.

Thats why I'm here!...Never done, all it takes is $$$
:stirthepot:New to Taco's...but, I've always had great luck w/ Nippondenso. When I worked @ Yamaha dealer years ago we'd always have people trying to cross ref a Champion or somethin' else for their bike/quad...whatever. And they always came back for the Denso's. I've also heard non-OEM plugs can cause issues in VW's, all I know is I even put 'em in a snowblower once and the damn thing ran the best it ever had!. We wouldn't want to doubt a Toyota engineer, now would we?

Changed plugs today. Truck has a touch over 19k miles. Installed 6 new Denso Irridium Power series plugs

    http://www.densoaftermarket.com/iridium-power.php

For whatever reason, and it makes no sense at all, the previous and common ticking is much less.

Wife and I had to take the truck somewhere after the plug change. Lock the house, jump in the truck and fire it up. She immediately commented that the truck was quieter.

Should not make any difference, but...

Synthetic oil/lubes used throughout. NGK Iridium Lazer 100K spark plugs. Rear differential breather extension modification. Toyota front skid plate, roof rack, bed mat, chrome exhaust exhaust. Runs like new!
I'm quite sure your manual calls for an oil change at 3k miles but if you're using synthetic you can definitely go ,longer if you wish. I have always changed my oil with less mileage than the manufacturers recomendations when it comes to regular oil. I had a Passport that use to burn oil until I swithced to ful synthetic which gave me piece of mind because it will not burn a drop.
If you do it yourself and can buy the oil cheap at walmart you could do every 3k but definitely not going to hurt to go 4k-4,500 miles. The synthetic oi llubicrates better, stands up to heat better, helps clean engine and will not break down as fast, hence the price difference. My O5 tacoma calls for 5k oil changes. I did it every 3k. Now that I switched to fulll synthetic I'm willing to go the recomended 5k miles before changing oil. Changing your oil more than less is a preference for some and a piece of mind for me. I drive my vehicles like they were stolen (winding them out, always warmed up) and have sold vehicles with 200k with engines running like new due to routine maintenance and changing fluids more frequently. Hope this helps. Good luck. average the cost of doing more frequent oil changes over doing potential engine work and you will have answered your ownquestions. 1st generation tacomas can take the abuse whichever route you go. They are bullet proof unlike the 2nd generation Tacomas.

My 05 TRD Sport 4x4 runs great with irridiums. Don't expect any changes in performance, mileage or anything like that. I simple did this so I would not have to change every 30K. M deaker recomended them and he uses them himself. Jst be sure to use Denzo or NGK only for Tacomas.
Everyone has good or bad things to say about switching to irridiums, My 05 still runs like the day I bought it using these. 99% of people don't realize they can use these; more money for the dealers. Think smart! Good luck! You did your research.
