Got the leaf Spring TSB. Here are some pics !

I have an 09 prerunner and mine goes into the dealer tomorrow for the TSB. You just to have to do alittle talking and have a very helpful service rep who knows what hes doing.

 

I have talked to my dealer and he won't do the TSB to my truck. He told me to call Toyota. I did. The Toyota center told me that the 09 TSB has not been issued and they would not instruct the dealer to do the TSB to my truck. So I cannot get the TSB until Toyota issues one

 

I have an 09 and I believe mine has only 3 leafs. I had 150lbs of sandbags in my bed plus me (~200lbs) jumping on it and it wasn't bottoming out. I've went over many bumps and haven't bottomed out yet. Ride feels firm and fine to me. This affects all trucks that do not have 4 leafs?

 

I've had a guesstimated 400+ lbs (easy) in my 09' with 3 leafs while trucking a large screen tv (200 lb picture tube) and some furniture about 30 miles over back rural roads and had no problem at all. I knew it was there, but didn't seem close to bottoming out and i barely eased up from my normal driving over bumps and all.

 

Bummer, just checked my 09 DC, LB, 4X4, and it has the old part numbers for the leaf springs. I just picked it up last week 2/12/09.

I currently have the truck loaded with approx. 650 pounds. I will post pics in a bit. The one thing I noticed is the amount of space between the top of tire and the bed. It appears that on the drivers side (LH) the bed is much more compressed than the passenger side. By about 2 inches or more.
I shifted the weight to favor the passenger side as well to see if that was the issue and it is not.
Could it be due the fact that is where we fill up (drivers side) with fuel and the tank ids more on the drivers side than in the middle?

Drivers side natural lean has bee discussed in threads before so that seems to be standard.

 

I talked to toyota today about my 09 tsb. They agreeded that it will work for the 05 to 08, but they will not do it for the 09. I then called my dealer, and after a while they got back to me and said they couldn't do it for an 09 even though I have the same bad 3 leaf springs. I live in the st. george, utah area, and would love to find a dealer in either las vegas or salt lake that would do this for me. I actually use my truck on the farm and need it to be used as a truck. I need to haul stuff that is heavy in it. If anyone knows where a dealer is in this area that might do it, please e-mail me or get back to me on this thread. Thanks for your help. rob

 

I am getting the suspension for the TSB installed on my 2007 double cab next Tuesday.

I went to the dealer today to get my oil change and talked to the service rep about it. I told him that my suspension has been bottoming out on the frame of the truck when I have had a few hundred pounds of mulch in the back and when I have had people riding in the truck.

Next, I proceeded to draw him a diagram of the problem I was having and offered to show him where the marks are from where it hit on the underbody of the truck.

Then, I told him this did not sound right so I did a little research online and found a TSB out on this issue. I handled him the TSB and showed him the parts that needed to be ordered.

The whole time I acted real humble and like I did not really know what I was talking about. While the oil change was being done they also looked over the truck as well. 30 minutes later he came out and asked when I would like to schedule an appointment to get the suspension work done.

BAAMM!

 

08 DC. Getting mine done tomorrow. Folsom lake Toyota ~ no problems (except they forgot to order the u bolts the first time I brought it in).

 

Mine bottoms out every time I go over a couple of dips by my house with 2x60lb sandbags and my topper which I guesstimate to be around 200lbs. The worst though is if I drive over a minor dip in the highway by my office at 50mph with 4 passengers... it will hit the bump stops in back pretty hard.

I will receive my 09 DC LB 4x4 this month. When I had told the dealer that I was going to buy, it was on the condition that the springs and shocks were changed or no go. They had no problem doing the upgrade except I was warned that it would be a rough ride. A friend picked it up for me after it was done (bought the truck in Phoenix, I live in Alaska) and said that the ride was not rough at all. I had leverage, but this is a known problem and anyone wanting the upgrade should pursue Toyota about it. Thanks to this forum, mine is done.

Money is tight. Their first response will probably be no. Go after it and be patient.

 

Thanks to this thread.....mine will be getting done tomorrow morning. I was damned impressed with the ease of getting this set in motion. I decided on a whim to check with my local dealer yesterday morning (Arlington Toyota) and a senior service advisor I know there (Mike). He looked up the TSB after we talked about it briefly and ordered the parts yesterday afternoon which arrived today.

I made the criteria since mine indeed currently has the three leaf springs, 23,000 miles, and being a 2007 Access Cab TRD V6.

I will take pictures, height measurements to compare tomorrow or the next when I get the truck back. Can't wait to see the difference in ride quality, load capacity, etc.

 

I will be going to my stealership very soon to get this done. I just got done driving 2200 miles on the bump stops. I didn't have that much "stuff" in the back either. I was not loaded with 80 lb bags of cement or rocks, just some luggage and stuff for my trip 300 lbs tops in the bed.

They can tell me about the "harsher ride" I will have with the new springs, but it can't be worse than it was with the springs flattened out.​

 

Okay......got this done today, and judging by the measurements I took last night, I gained 3/4 to an inch in height over the old 3 pack leaf springs. Interestingly, the service writer said he compared the old and new side by side, and there was a very noticeable difference in flex from old to new - the new ones being much stiffer.

As far as driving goes, not too much of a difference; but the back end feels higher, and much more planted in turns, with the steering input a bit more responsive side by side. Truck feels about the same stiffness wise, maybe slightly more than before.


Overall, I am glad that the bed won't bottom out now under load hopefully.

 

I'm going to check my truck tomorrow, I'm not sure why our trucks would be made differently as our trucks are all made in the same place, but I guess we do need day lights and diff speedometers, so who knows. When I called the head office customer services they told me to talk to a local dealer, when I talked to my local dealer he couldn't find the tsb, nor did he say he heard of it, then he slammed forums like this when I told him after my truck bottomed out I was looking to see if others had the problem. I got home and e-mailed him your tsb sheet from adobe, but have't heard back, now that i know what the leaf's are, hahaha, I'm going to check tomorrow, maybe I don't need anything done either. Hell it was worth a shot even if I didn't

 

Don't know about you, but I'm glad I found this forum... Don't care about the dealers!! They got into the vehcile business and dealing with vehicle problems is a draw back - no point in being a jerk about it.

 

He slams forums like this because it costs him profitable shop time and space; rather than being able to rape you on parts/labor charges.

The best way around that idiot since he balked (provided your truck qualifies) is to go through Toyota customer service, and have them set it up with your preferred dealership with a confirmation number, as in this post:

I had the TSB done to my '06 PreRunner and the dang thing still bottoms out with a small load.....(3 pit bikes and gear)...I like my Toyota mostly but the inability to haul any load more than a bag of feathers really irks me...I should have stayed with my Ford I guess....anybody got any suggestions
