It's a much better upgrade.

If you're having a hard time finding the 1/8" rubber gasket material, I'll send you some.

 

Got started on my belly skid and finished up the transmission skid last night.

tranny skid tied into the IFS skid and factory crossmember.

 

Replaced the lower control arm bushings, bolts and adjustment cams and FINALLY got a decent alignment done.

How big of a deal is this job? My bushings are squeaking terribly and have been thinking about doing exactly wht you did, but have been unmotivated after taking a look at all that seems to be involved...

 

Big enough of a deal that I paid my mechanic to do it.

One of the 4 bolts came out in one piece. All 4 of the bushings got destroyed in the tear down. 9 years of salty roads have taken their toll.

If you can get yours apart without destroying the bushings, Energy suspension has a bushing kit that reuses the inner and outer metal sleeves. You just press them apart and install the poly replacements. The whole kit is $38 bot both sides. This is vs $50 per bushing from Toyota (4 total). I have that kit from ES if you want it, I could not use because mine got destroyed coming out.

The hardware, bolts, adjustment cams and sleeve cost $250 from Toyota, the only place you can get them. I know somebody who works at a dealer so I got a hefty discount. I can get you part numbers if you want.

 

Thanks for the info. I dont have hardly any rust (New Mexico) so I may very well be able to pull it off. Will send you PM about bushings, and appreciate that offer. Do you have to press out the LBJ?

 

He pulled apart the LBJ and left everything hanging from above. Then removed the LCA. You need the LCA out of the truck to press out/in the bushings.

Any of you guys ever installed a switch panel in the headliner, right behind the map lights? I was looking at the switch panel and switches below, but am not sure if there is clearance above the headliner. Thoughts?

How far do the switches stick out the back? I just went out and looked at mine and it looks like you might have a half inch to play with. It would look pretty sweet!

 

Ya but that panel looks like at least a 1/2 inch thick

 

I have 2 of the switches at home, so I can measure them. There are no dimensions on the website. Maybe I will pull the map light to see how much clearance there is. Just wanted to know if anyone else had done it to save my self a little work.

I have space on the dash right now for what I have on the truck, seat heaters (2) and front lights, but after that, no more room for switches. I was thinking that rock lights, OBA and rear lights might be future switch needs.

 

Those switches are too deep for the headliner. They are about 1"-1.5" deep plus the length of the wire you are going to connect (needs at least 1" clearance for the spade connector and wire)
So thats 2-3" depth total, no go in the headliner.

 

You have heated seats?

I think if the switches don't stick out more than a 1/2 inch you should be good but then how much does the connector stick out? A panel that was thicker and maybe at an angle might work better
