Hey guys, new here. Looking to buy a first gen double cab tacoma. Looked at one with 144k km yesterday but the frame was rusty and truck wasn't in great condition. On the way back decided to look at another one. Its got 204k miles, but looks like it just came off the factory line. Everything is spotless, I've never seen a used truck in such great condition. Price is 11,700, I really liked the truck, its in way way better shape than first one I looked at, but amount of km is making me think twice. 200k miles is a lot.

No idea what to tell you.
We can't see the truck so we don't know what kind of condition it is.

Try reading your post from the perspective of someone 5000 miles away who has never met you.

144k km is not unbearably high for a 2004. 200k is starting to get up there but is still not unreasonable for a 2004.
Frame rust? It happens, especially in northern climates. Again, we don't know how bad it is. Is it surface rust, or are there holes?

    Edit: Missed that.

Are you talking km or miles?
204k miles, I wouldn't touch it for more than $4000.
204k km, that's only about 120k miles... still high for over $11k.

I am talking miles. second truck is 201k miles. Truck looks nearly brand new. As I mentioned, under the hood looks like it just came off of factory line, very clean. 0 rust. Everything shifts and looks tight.

    201k or 204k?

Either way, that's too much money for either truck.

Beyond that, nobody can tell you what you want to hear without actually seeing the truck.

dont buy either, simple as that. keep looking.

frame rust kills these trucks, so if you see one with frame rust run away. plus you said it was beaten up, so thats a given to just forget about it.

204k miles is A LOT to buy a truck with. I dont care how clean it looks, maintenance will be a constant hassle. Look for something much lower. Plus he is nuts to ask 11k for it.

    Ditto.

For comparison, in November 2002 I traded my 1994 HiLux in on an '03 Tundra.
I got $1500 in trade for that truck. It was 8 years old with 225k on it.
You're talking about a 12 year old truck with the same mileage... and the seller wants over 11k for it?

    Run away.

I just paid $13.5k for my 2008 with 52k on it.

    Edit.

Once again... lack of information in the OP.

What YEAR are these trucks? I had 2000 in my head because there is another similar thread running right now.

Are you talking a 2001 or 2004? That's going to make a bit of a difference, but again, just on mileage alone, that truck is not worth more than $4000.

Unsubbing because getting information needed to be even slightly helpful is like pulling teeth.

I can't say that I would spend that much coin on a used truck with 200k on the ticker. I would rather get a few pennies more saved up and buy yourself something else.

But, if its something you think you would love to have, and if engine/transmission/misc. seems to be in good order, have at it.
