I'm tired of seeing black wheels. It has to do a lot with my car history. Honda's or imports in general have been doing this for decades. One of the most common being spoon sw388's. A simple 5 spoke matte black wheel commonly known as slipstreams.

I think for a car low pros with big wheels are fine.No truck should have low pro tires on it ( and by truck I mean a regular pickup. 4x4 or pre-runner.An X-Runner or sport truck is different. ) But to the all black wheel thing,I don't care for it. I grew up looking at rims or mags ( as we called them ). Most were cast and polished or painted. Not too many were chrome, and I never really cared for the chrome look. I like a decent looking machine finish cleared or a powdercoated/painted look. Thinking of a bronze or gold color for my SWB a'la Subaru race colors. Always thought those colors went well together.

    Nice truck.

Hey, I wasn't meaning to insult. Someone can look at the things I do to my truck and say, 'yuk'. It is all subjective.

Actually, this setup is pretty nice. The studded profile of the tires and wells make nice contrast. It's not my preference but I prefer Pepsi vs Coke and this is just as irrelevant. As far as blobs, I am talking blacked-out like black truck, black wheels with no contrast etc...basically, a truck that looks like a featureless brick with empty wheel wells, at least to my subjective eyes. Someone else may look at the same thing and have the opposite view . There is no right or wrong.

No Worries. Can't be thin skinned when you're hanging around a BBS. :D

And yeah, I do like the beads/bolt heads theme to break up the black.

That particular photo really lends itself to what you were talking about because it's so back lit.

I like this one better (though it's back lit also)

In the end as mentioned it's all subjective. No style is right or wrong. I notice that older folks are almost always against black wheels and stuff. I hear it all the time from older people asking me why I didn't go with chrome wheels. Whereas I almost always get compliments on the truck from the younger folk. I never even considered anything else I was either going black(preferably a matte finish) or just going to keep my stock wheels.

I'd never ever buy aftermarket chrome rims, and most factory ones I don't like on trucks either that are out right now with the exception of the 20's on the Ram sport that's probably the only truck I'd opt for chrome wheels on.

I hate to think of myself as "old", but I just realized that at 41 I am twice as old as some members here. I grew up when chrome meant fancy upgrade, but I have always hated chrome. I will never pay for a chrome upgrade, in fact I will pay to get the chrome removed. I bought my truck because it came in color-keyed option, so my grill and bumpers were not chrome.
Similarly, I also think (like the older generation here) that black wheels/rims look like wheels that lost their hubcaps. There are really nice looking wheels out there, but I think if they were a gray/gunmetal shade rather than black it would look much better. I do however get the idea of black-out on a black vehicle and understand that someone might want black wheels then, but it is also not my style.
I can tolerate brushed aluminum in lieu of chrome - silver color but not shiny.

shit, im going to paint my wheels black. Its a simple, easy, non flashy color that when it gets trashed up from wheeling i can just repaint them. Chrome wheels on 4wd trucks is just to flashy and blingy and unnecessary, and too expensive to justify when I use it as a truck.
