I bought mine from rightchannelradio.com. I have an 18' cable and mount I couldn't use I will sell you cheap. Using the hood mount, I had to get a firering cable for clearance.

The mount that wouldn't submit ;), lol.

If you're going hood mount like Brian and I have, I highly, highly suggest going with a Larsen NMO27 antenna (or NMO27B for black) and making the mount out of thin sheet (as opposed to plate, I think mine is like 1/16) that can be cut with a jigsaw and metal blade fairly easily. You can also cap it with an NMO weather cap when not in use, and it'll look like a GPS puck.

After seeing what Brian went through at the meet to cut the 3/16 or 1/4 plate that he used to get enough support for a fiberglass antenna, it looked like a lot, lot, lot of work. Cool that it's DIY though, and he got to do it just like he wanted.

Alternately, Relentless Taco sells a mount for a fiberglass antenna that sits where Brian's is. This is what I ripped off the design for mine from. I think he charges like $25 shipped for them.

I bought this kit and couldn't use the bracket or coax for how I wanted mine mounted. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/firestik-cb-antenna-kit.html

I would suggest for anyone wanting to hood mount to buy the one from relentless and give it a try. I ended up using 1/4 and having it bent. It still flexes enough that I'm concerned about the paint on the edge of my hood.

Shot who in the what with the huh now?

Edit: durr... you meant Paul. I was thinking Brian going, what the...? I know I've been busy at work and all, but how'd I miss that? lol

If you can make it work, I still say mounting a Larsen NMO27b on the hood or up front somewhere is the way to go. If you've got steel bumpers on the way, just weld a tab up front somewhere, put a 3/4" hole in it, run the cable, whammy, done. Or better yet just put a 3/4" hole in the bumper and mount it straight to it. EDIT: (not lots) slightly cheaper than a firestick, better performing, and $10-15 to replace the whip if you trash it on a trail.

So apparently my wheel bearings didn't make it out of there alive... weather warming up, I'm hearing grinding and fun noises when I turn. Ah, well. Anyone know if wheel bearings are under powertrain?

Hmm, thanks, well ill check it out. The dealership here was already nice enough to give me the ticking fan tsb even though I'm over miles on the bumper to bumper warranty, so I guess I'll see.

It's been up for pretty much a month. Tired of people jerking me around. Think i'm just going to do a 4x4 SAS conversion. Everyone seems to think i'd be willing to trade my truck for their ford or chevy 4x4.

Screw em! They are just jealous that your truck looks better than theirs and gets better fuel mileage!

Let me know when you are going to do the SAS. Those things are fun, but challenging.

Mount and antenna you're looking at a few bucks less, not dramatic. I paid like $30 for my antenna and mount together, but the place I bought it from has gone out of business. Go figure.

If you break the whip, here's the replacement:
    http://www.wearecb.com/store/larsen-w490b-replacement-whip-49-inch-p-3372.html

vs this for firestik if you break it.
    http://www.rightchannelradios.com/firestik-fs-cb-antenna.html

It's not dramatic, but it's a little cheaper. The performance though is definitely better. It's the same antenna design as a Wilson 5000, which is a base loaded 1/4 wave. The difference is that the coil isn't designed to handle 5000 watts, so it's smaller and cheaper. It'll handle 200 watts I believe, which is still plenty of headroom for a normal CB.
