sooo, forgive my ignorance.. but I looked up that Plasti-Dip, it is essentially a plastic like spray that you can cover chrome, plastic, etc, with for a matte (or gloss?) appearance?
how does this stuff hold up ?
I see members have done floor components, as well as exterior components, which leads me believe it is moderately to very tough.. tough enough for exterior road wear..

how do those of you that have used it like it?

    this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNY9Dx617N8&feature=related

seems to hint that it is tough and you can do the whole vehicle...
I am less quick to trust someone selling something.

seems like it might be a good band-aide to hold me over until I have recovered from the downpayment, before I start talking bumpers..

    thoughts?
    thanks.

Welcome to TW. Some folks love it, some folks hate it. I've used it on emblems before, and it holds up well. Other guys have used it on their rims and swear by it. Only needed to touch up once and awhile. I guess that is dependent on how many gravel roads you'll be moving down.

I think its a great product to test how something will look before rattle can spraying since its easy to remove.

Here is a great thread on the subject:

Plasti-dip is great. If you don't like it, simple, just peel it off. It has a matte black finish and a lot of members have used it in some way or another on many different projects for their trucks. It holds up pretty well if you apply it correctly (enough layers).

Look through this thread. You'll find everything you'd wanna know.

Oh, and WELCOME to TW :D

Replaced the alternator, dremeled out plastic fenderliners, bashed on pinch weld, removed my fender flared because 3 of them are damaged. Ordered PIAA 510s for the bumper and sliders on thew way. Nothing photo-worthy yet :(.

Installed all the dash trim pieces that I painted black yesterday.

The semi-gloss is not that good of a match to the factory OEM black trim pieces which appear to be more flat. However, it's better than the fading blue/gray I was constantly faced with every day.

Anyway... if my spray painting skills didn't suck major balls (seriously, if I ever developed a huffing habit, I'd screw that up too) it probably could have come out better. And of course when reinstalling the pieces (namely the two caps that sandwich the steering column) I took major chunks of paint of the trim....

...so what do I do? Saturate the end of a q-tip with spray paint and do a little touch up. lol.... yeah, that's my style

Anywho... here are the obligatory pics

    Use the vinyl/fabric dye.

Worked amazingly well. Being the dumbass I am, I actually tried scratching it with my fingernail a week later and it didn't do anything. That stuff is permanent for the right surfaces.

Keep an eye on the bedliner. Im not a fan of drop in bedliners, they seem to cause premature wearing and rusting on the rails and bed.

Oh. I also steam cleaned the carpets and seats.

I should do this more often than every 6 years. The solution that the cleaner was sucking up out of my seats looks like watery mud
