Im new to the Tacoma world. I have a 2011 double cab 6 speed man, do all of these features exist on my truck as well or do some of them not apply?

Since 2009 model:
Off Road TRD 4WD has 9 drive modes.
All other 4WD have 6 drive modes.
All 2WD Tacomas have 3 drive modes.

 

Well Ill just have to mess around with it this weekend at Ocatillo.

 

Have a great time... What will be noticed is the TRAC in 4WD-HI... Specially on loose sand (Devil's Slide) or climbing steep, loose grades... Try it in the normal (VSC & TRAC ON) mode... Then compare it to just open differentials and no traction control (VSC OFF MODE)... Stop moving, press and hold down the VSC switch for a few seconds... lights will come on telling you VSC is off. See if you notice it harder to drive over the sand or climb grades without traction control (and tires at street pressure).

 

Does this apply to 4wd's only, or a Pre Runner with the OR package too?
My wife drives an '11 TRD OR Pre Runner.

 

Everything excet the 4WD modes apply to your Prerunner.

 

Very helpful explanation, thank you. I was really disappointed at first about all the nanny-options regarding traction control. I know they would be a great asset in a unplanned loss of traction, however I love to slightly abuse my truck at the beach and am worried that these nanny options will limit how much wheel spinning fun I can have.

 

You can turn OFF the traction controls in all three transfer case modes (H2, H4, L4)... L4 is normally off until you push the A-TRAC button.

Spinning tires don't get you anywhere, but stuck... However, the VSC beeper may annoy you, so there could be that reason.

 

The video of How A-TRAC Works with three tires on rollers is using a Tundra.

A-TRAC was on most other Toyota and Lexus SUV high-end models before the Tacoma finally got it.

 

You have a Tundra with A-TRAC, but not with a rear locker?

 

Tundras never came with a factory rear locker. Not even the first-gen.

Possibly because of the torque from the V8... Who knows. Lame excuse when the 6.2L Raptors are running one.
