    Have a 2001 Tacoma 2.7L 4cyl with about 173k on it was wondering what type service that is need?

    scocar's Sticky of the 2001 Toyota Scheduled Maintenance Guide is a great place to start. Since it only lists up to 120K mile maintenance requirements, I suggest using the 80K-90K mile recommendations on pages 50-51 of the guide, depending on what kind of maintenance has been done to your truck and when it was done.

    as long as you've done your regular maintenance, fluid flushes, spark plugs. you've got nothing to worry about. I've got 225k on my 05 and the only thing "serious" was replacing my u-joint.

    Never done this myself but just read on another forum and confirmed in the service interval manual that 60k services also require valve inspection. Obviously adjustment as necessary.

    Some will say every 60k is good to do this, others say overkill and do it at every timing belt change, others have never heard of such a thing and won't check until they run into problems.

    Unless its running rough. No adjustment necessary.

    I had an '85 with 450k+, idled just like the first day I got her, got 26mpg regularly, never adjusted.

    Nice to hear this. Was getting worried about never doing this. I'll probably end up doing it anyway at my next TB change in 30k.
