So, now that I've got a 'new' truck that I'll be driving for the next decade, I decided to get off my lazy butt and make some proper speaker boxes for the back.

I've got an 08 regular cab, and I based the box design on the fantastic thread here ... I've got some Sony 6x9s that I wired in. No sub or anything, just added them in the back so I can have four speakers and a little more low end, nothing exciting. I didn't replace the stock stereo or anything either, just followed the thread here on hooking them up to the existing unused rear speaker jacks on the back. (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/5126-diy-rear-speakers-2nd-gen-reg-cab.html) EDITED link in!

    Here's the question:

Since these are fairly small, low-power units....do I bother porting the boxes? Or just go with a sealed enclosure?

I would vent them for sure. Anytime I have ever put in a 6x9 in a box, it always sounds better with just the terminal cup popped out, lol! So if you just throw in a small 2" port i feel you will hear a difference. Tuning is not so important since we are dealing with a full range speaker.

    Best luck!

It sounds better with the terminal cup out because 6x9s are designed to be used infinite baffle. Pitting them in a box that small strangles them. It's the same as a sub in a box that small.
