Just bought a 2012 Tacoma TRD Offroad dbl cab. First tank was 19.6 mpg and the next half tank was 19.8 mpg with half city/half highway driving. I am very happy with those numbers and the truck is not even broke in yet. I reached those numbers by driving all through the RPM range. I was breaking it in and not necessarily aiming for good mileage.

Almost all my driving is city driving and I average 18 mpg from my 2012 V6 TRD AC.I've owned two of the 2.7 ltr 4 cylinder Tacoma's with manuals and I miss the 23 mpg but not the constant shifting.

I average 18.5-20 driving a mix of highway and city, in Denver it was more 16-17 when I didn't get out of stop and go traffic or was on the 75mph interstate. I did get my all time highest last weekend though, I managed to get 25 MPG but that was while driving though Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks so speed limits are 45 with a little 55 on relatively mild hills and constant speeds between areas and on pure gas. Not too bad I don't think for a V6 six speed only rated for 18 on the highway.

Just got 20.9 MPG on my last fill up. Took it easy for the whole tank except for Saturday where I was pushing my toe into the pedal to accelerate hard 3-4 times...otherwise, it may have been 21 MPG. This is mostly highway, or otherwise a straight country road with very little stops.

Your mpg difference is probably weighted due to running the 0% ethanol vs 10% ethanol as opposed to the change in octane. Try finding 87 Octane 0% ethanol

With stock tires (and a fast reading speedometer) My city was 16 and highway was 19+... driving fast with heavy load.

When the speedometer was made correct with 265/75-16 tires, my city dropped to 15 and pure highway to 18.

Gasoline with more ethynol will lower your mileage by 1/2 mpg. I got 14.5 mpg at today's fill up using Costco gas ($3.89/ gallon... cheap for here!)

If I cruise and don't have a load... I could get 20 mpg highway.

The window sticker did say 16 city and 20 highway... and that I belive is accurate and not hyped.

The ethanol of course is about 10% less mileage. 10% less emissions apparently, but you have to put your foot in the throttle to get the same performance. So it's a wash.

I don't see a problem with getting 20 mpg. Getting about 19 mpg now on the new truck with 91 octane

2012 v6 AC mostly stock - average 17-18 mpg mostly city. recent trip with a bed full of camp gear and towing a 14 foot rowboat filled with gear i got 17mpg on the ride up and 18.8 on the ride home (all highway). very impressive.

but you have to remember i am not a 17 year old and i do not drive like one. i tend to granny shift.

I still think a lot of the variance is due to the difference between valve clearances from engine to engine. That's one thing I miss with this truck - I wish it had screw-adjusted rockers. With my old Fit's adjustment range I could adjust it 0.006"in/0.010"ex and average low 30s for mileage like EPA, or I could go to 0.008"in/0.012"ex (the top of the spec) and not have to do any work to get 40+mpg all day long. Unfortunately with this V6 truck it's ridiculously expensive to adjust those valves, and it involves putting in more parts that get broke in and won't be exactly where you want them to be in 500 miles.

That's my guess anyways for why some trucks get 16 mpg and other seemingly identical trucks are in the low 20s. For example, my grill block is out for the summer, and I've been thrashing the motor quite a bit (working on that over-4k 2-3 shift that's been giving me trouble) and it still holding mid-21s for mileage when by all accounts I should have a gas light at 300 miles, not the 360-370 it's been giving.

Maybe if we ever get the new 1GR with the hydraulic lifters... if ever...

I see differences when one factors in V-6 vs. I-4, Manual vs. automatic, 2WD vs. 4WD, Double Cab vs. Regular or Access Cab... then where one is located... In Florida or Kansas where a hill is something an ant makes vs. mountains and curves... then there is city vs. highway... and finally California vs. other states or Mexico with real gasoline.

As I have the almost worst combination: 4WD, Double Cab, Hills, 50% city, California gas with ethylene diluting it... I am lucky to get over 16 mpg. It only happens when I am pure highway, on Mexican gasoline, and best if my bed isn't loaded down.

I have the same truck and my numbers are nearly identical. I bought it with 19 miles on it on 5/15/12 and have put almost 2000 miles on it already.

Worst tank so far has been 18.5, best was 21.4. I'm extremely happy with the mileage this thing has been getting.

On a trip back from california, (i traded my 06 honda civic for my brother's 2001 tacoma 4 door, 4x4) with about 157,000 miles on the engine, i got 22 HWY MPG driving I-5 from Sacramento to Seattle. Now that i'm back home, commuting 80% HWY / 20% City...i'm getting 19 MPG.

I'm pretty satisfied with those figures since the EPA window sticker rating was 17 city / 19 hwy when new.

I did however do a major tune-up on the engine, changed all the belts, engine / tranny / differential fluids, and bought brand new General Grabber HTS tires before bringing it to Washington...so thats expected i guess.

None the less pretty happy with the mileage given the age of the vehicle.

saved my gas receipts for 3 months! alot of highway driving. I drove 7447 km and consumed 1078 L fuel (regular 87 octane)

    average 14.5 L/100km or 16.2 Mile/gallon (US)
    best 13.0 L/100km or 18.1 Mile/gallon (US)
    worst 18.0 L/100km or 13.0 Mile/gallon (US)

my vehicle is 4X4 V6 6sp stock except for TRD exhaust and AFE intake. Ill have to read through these threads to see how i compare! In the winter my fuel economy takes a serious blow (12.5 mile/gallon around town when cold out)! Might run the same test with some 91 ethonal free!

    gas prices right now
regular 87 octane is $1.259/Litre or $4.765/US gallon
91 octane ethonal free is $1.379/Litre or $5.22/gallon
