I really would like to put power windows in my reg cab tacoma...anyone know of a step by step guide i could follow? also where could i get the needed motors and switches and such??? and last question, if i did put in power windows- could i put the buttons to open the windows on the unused button area to the bottom left of the steering wheel? i would only need two switches, it doesn't matter to me that there wouldn't be a button for the passenger to use, just as long as i can operate the window...

ps, what would i do with the manual window operation handle if i did put in power windows?

I'm sure someone will chime in with some websites. I'm wondering if you can go to Toyota and get the parts, although who knows what that would cost. Maybe you could go to a junk yard and get some parts cheap

You're better off getting new door panels and have the switches mounted where they're supposed to be. You would then not have to worry about the holes in the old door panels where the handles mount. Just my $0.02 but if I were you I'd start raiding local junk yards for parts or find someone local who gutted their truck and is parting it out.

Since regular cab trucks aren't offered with power windows and locks, the first question to ask is if the doors will even accept the parts from an access or double cab truck. They may be totally different. Time to make friendly with the dealership parts guys.

I agree that it would be cleanest to find all the factory parts to swap over off a wrecked truck.

Someone here did a writeup awhile back on adding power windows (and I think locks too) to a regular cab. He used universal stuff though. It turned out good, but didn't quite look factory. He sounded like he was happy with it.

Edit: Not the writeup I was thinking of, but the same type of parts used: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/210568-added-power-locks-windows-2012-a.html

I looked into this on a previous truck, most of these kits come without switches, you have to order a switch kit in addition to the motors and hardware. If I remember correctly there was a two switch kit designed to be mounted in the center console, like in a lot of european cars. You could order that. Might have to extend a few wires to reach the passenger side door.

Check that out. It lists the different kits and switches available.

Edit: I don't see the center console/ one set of switches only option there.

You could just mount the driver's side switches in the dash and leave the passenger switch ziptied behind the dash or inside the passenger door. Or modify the harness and remove the passenger's door switch.

just found this website with these things to do this kinda OE.... would these work?

    http://www.autopartsdeal.com/catalo...5+11782+4294962950&y=2007&mk=Toyota&md=Tacoma

    http://www.autopartsdeal.com/catalog/?N=1725+11782+4294962950+9331

with the window regulator with motor...that means i wouldn't have to buy the motor to roll the window up and down correct? or is that a different motor?

also, i was wondering if the base reg cabs are pre wired to just plug and play this stuff? i did that for the intermittent wiper and cruise control, so i was wondering if this would be similar?

Regular cab trucks don't come with power windows. Not unless it's new in the last couple years. So I doubt there is any wiring there to run them.

Regulator with motor would be all you need to raise the window. No other motor needed. Just a way to power it up.

what if i just got the motor without the regulator, because I'm guessing there is already a regulator on the window, but for the manual operation... would just the motor work?

ps, the wiring shouldn't be too hard if i have to wire it myself, id just need some directions on how to do it, I'm good at doing the wiring as long as i have some direction to go in

I don't think it works that way with factory stuff. Again, I would make friends with the parts guy at the dealership. They could tell you if just the regulator is the same from manual to power.

The wiring is very simple if you don't need a switch on the passenger's door. If you do want a switch on their door, then you need a switch made for that specific application. Otherwise, you can use any momentary DPDT that you can fit in the dash.

alright cool, i really have to start looking in to what i actually have to do...and I'm fine with just a switch for the drivers side and a switch for the passengers side on the drivers side of the car, i don't need to have a separate switch so the passenger can operate the window
