and lastly, a huge thank you to John, for hooking me up with a 5th sport alloy. took my best terra grappler as used it as a spare on it. also took my second best tera grappler and tossed it onto the factory steel spare, so i can toss that in the bed for wheeling trips to have 2 spares.
    you're the man, john!

that's the setup in the number 1 postion right now. the holdup is crunchining the numbers to see if it will actually work. last thing i would want is to get it all set up and have it turn out that for one reason or another, it cycles identacally to a 3 inch pack with the regular shackle.
the potential problem area i can see at the moment is the shackle angle being off (with an extended shackle) and having to move the hanger.

Good point. Do you know how much the stock pack w/aal is good for?

good for in what area? lift? travel?

I do know that if i unbolt my shocks (current drop limiter) and let the axle drop all of the way, the next limiting factor is the shackle, meaning upgrading to an actual lift pack would not yeild any more travel. may even get me less potentially since they are thicker packs and could limit up travel.

just gotta drop it down 2 gears instead of 1 :burnrubber:

i can already tell that there is a difference in on road cornering compared to the nittos, but a big tread and narrower tire will do that.

so less off road drifting and more on road drifting......:drevil:

    Sorry I meant travel.

Does the shackle go all the way until it hits the hangar? I need to play around with it some day. I'd imagine a better leaf pack would be able to get more arch giving more down travel.

    yep, hanger to shackle contact.

a pack with more arch may get more travel, but i'm trying to stay away from lifting more if i can. the 2'' front and 1.5'' rear lift i'm at now is a great mix for dual purpose wheeling. enough groud clearance, but keeps the center of gravity nice and low for high speed and off camber situations.

Maybe a softer pack designed for more lift would turn out to be the right amount of lift on our trucks. I wonder if it would sag like crazy with a trailer though.

i'm really banking on the 4'' pack with a longer shackle working, but i have a lot of math to do to figure it out since i don't have the actual leafs here to play with. a softer pack with more lift would probably do very well, but like you said, towing would be rough, and we can't have that. i could put a weight distributing hitch on the boat trailers, but those don't work so well on offroad trailers.

with what i have now, if i were able to touch the top of the spring pack to the bottom of the frame rail, the springs would be in severe negative arch. my goal is to run an air bump, that when fully compressed, stops the leafs just before touching. at that point, i'd like to have the leaf springs be a straight line. because of the way shackles move, from the experimenting i've done, a shackle flip would actually make that amount of up travel harder to achiev without way more modification to the frame and bed. so really, the math i need to do i gues is create a formula where i have variables for eye to eye length of a set of springs at full drop and when completely flat. then have a variable for delta-r (change in radians) of the shackle itsself, then a variable so i can plug in different shackle lengths. if i set it up (and solve it) correctly, I should be able to calculate where the hanger has to be to achieve a flat spring just under the frame for different shackle lengths. then i choose the shackle length that has resulted in the hanger being where it already is, and shazam, build a shackle that long for the springs chosen and used in the equation, and i'll be on my way.

pretty much a just a shitload of math because i don't have that actual springs in my hands.

That's awesome. cleanest dual battery mouting system for us so far. just looked at it in the expedition 1 build. i think that'll be a must, come winch time.

just gotta fork over the cash for a second yellowtop now too

my buddy with the land rover runs dual oddesys off of the battery manager that kevin mentions in that thread too. great system.
