Hate me if you want to....Love me if you can.

Well I finally got my 20" s installed (hence the title of this thread). If you remember, I bought rims with a smaller bore and was trying to figure out what to do in this thread...

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-rims-will-not-fit-center-bore-too-small.html

I'd like to thank everyone for their comments and concerns! I decided to just do the job myself. I'll explain what I did and give you a few pics incase anyone decides to do this themselves.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd rank this a 5 only because I had to do alot of measuring and calculating in order to get the right cut. But once I started cutting, it was really easy!

You first need to get a router, borrow one or rent one. Do not buy one because the job is only about 30-60 mins total (depending on how much beer you are drinking at the time).

You'll also need to buy a Rabbetting bit with a 1/2 inch cut and 1/2 depth and a 3/8 bearing. The Rabbetting bit will come with a 1/2 bearing, but thate will give you too small of a cut. Swap it out with a 3/8 bearing and it is perfect! Total on parts was less than $40.

Once you get the bit in, set the depth of the bit to about 1/4 depth. This means that half of the bit will be sticking past the plain of the router (once you install it you'll see what I mean). Line up all 4 rims and cut them all. It will take you 5 mins or less per wheel.

When that's done, set the depth of the router bit to 1/2, which means that the back side of the bit should just break the plain. Now cut all 4 wheels again. Then you are done! That's it!

One thing to remember is that you will want to cut a little at a time, don't just force the bit to cut all at once. Move it in a circular motion OPPOSITE the direction that the bit is spinning! If you go the same direction that the bit is spinning, it tends to lunge foward.

If you need any more info, please let me know and I can try to explain more!!!

Here's a before and after pic of the rim bore, then just a few others I took!

I didn't atack anything, i used a calculated method and widened the bore. My hand held router did as good of a job as any machine shop would have.....

Holy crap...I didn't know a router could cut metal. Sweet! Those wheels have some serious bling. I love the way it looks. Good job!

Yeah dude, I'm proud of you too.

Fuck whatever anybody else said, you were going to come up with a way to solve this problem. I admire that, job well done, looks like this solution will work well for you.

Thanks alot guys!!! I really do appreciate all that you've said!!!!Yea, I love the way it turned out. I've taken it up to about 80 and no shimmes or vibrations of any sort what-so-ever!

It took awhile for me to actually start up the router and cut the first rim. I wanted to make sure that I had planned out everything to the best of my ability before I reached the point of no return. With a little bit of luck, everything turned out just fine. Thank you again guys!

Nice job Leer, I was one who said cut your loss or resell, I would just hate to hear of an accident. I would say is just to monitor the rims, looking for cracks or deformation, I only wish you safety.

My "attacked" comment was tongue in cheek. From the pictures it looked like you did a nice job and no one can argue you didn't after your results on the road. The truck looks sharp. Gratz!

Thanks! This site is for EVERYONE to share their mods so we can all learn form it! Please make sure that you post your DIY's when your done, I'd love to see what you did!

Thanks, that's one of the reasons I decided to go through with this whole thing. I put the wheel next to my truck and it seemed to match pretty good.

    Uh-oh....It's neither hub-centric or lug-centric...It's Ec-centric!!!!
