08 tsb advise

Ok I called toyota back a year ago
Regarding spring tsb playing dumb. Got nowhere. Today called them again thinking thaat now the 08 models where included in the sspring tsb. Playing dumb again. Anyway they tell me there is no bulletin for my 08 truck regarding a harsh ride. What now. Should I call back telling them I know there is with the tsb number didn't want to get nasty but no dealer help and nothing from toyota

 

Time to get nasty with them I had the TSB done to my 2008 about 4 months ago with no problems. Take a copy of the TSB with you.

 

Just take your truck to the dealer with a print out of the TSB:

also tell them that you have spoken with Toyota already, to double check on the Rear Harsh Ride TSB issue. Best thing is to read the stories of what other people have done. (links provided above)

My 08 was done last week. They are covered by the TSB now, but I was turned down last year. I installed load airbags to resolve the issue when it was not covered. The service manager told me I don't need it because I put the airbags on. I told him I put them on because of the weak springs not being covered and I'd be back in a hour without the airbags on and walked out. They called 20 minutes later asking if I could bring it in the next day to do the TSB.

Don't ask about the TSB just take the truck in for warranty service saying "the springs are bottoming out over bumps with only couple hundred pounds in the bed" and you want the truck checked. Be insistant on the "harsh ride" with small load in bed.

PS: The new springs raised my bed 2"+, its worth the headache of dealing with the A-hole technicians.

 

UPdate: after getting nowhere with Toyota on the phone. I took the printed TSB down to the dealer and told them this is what needs done and I am done arguing with people about it. The guys only question was "where did you get a copy of that" I asked him what does it matter, then he changed his tone and said it doesn't. The parts are on order now.....so we shall see how things turn out.

 

I researched many threads before approaching the local dealer as I have a 2009 that I did not think would be covered at this time. I was lucky enough to have my facts together and thanks to this site mine will be done this Friday.

I am having trouble understanding why exactly so many dealers try to refuse this TSB for various reasons. It seems to me that it is a win-win situation for the Dealer as they do not have to pay for the parts and can charge Toyota for the labor......so why so much trouble at certain dealers??

I believe their certified mechanics make a pretty good hourly wage and with an all day procedure (on many trucks) they should make out pretty good on their profit. I wonder if it is simply a time issue or maybe a manpower shortage for some or maybe even just truly ignorant dealers with no clue as to the TSB.

I do know when I arrived with a copy of the TSB the service manager did not even read it over. I asked if he wished to see it and he said with a smile "no need I get those things sent to me every day from Toyota for all kinds of things" He went on to say every dealer gets notices from Toyota and that they are bound to honor the TSBs as a Dealer for the Maker.

Sounds to me like this dealer was simply playing dumb to avoid the work and I still can not understand as to why any dealer would benefit from doing so.

 

I walked in today with the TSB in hand and handed it to the tech and asked him if he'd heard about it. He said yes and after about 10 minutes he came back and said the parts are ordered, they'll be in on Monday.

 

so far, seems I've only seen this for access or double-cab trucks. Where's the TSB for 08 regular cab?

 

I have a Case Number with Toyota for my Regular cab right now. I am expecting a call from my case Rep tomorrow to find out why they are not covered. Long story short. I loaded my bed up with 500-600lbs; it bottomed out. The Dealer had the TSB parts in stock, I had my truck in the service bay, and they refused to do it because the TSB says Regular Cab excluded.

 

I don't know anything, but are the leaf spring lengths different in the Access/Double cabs than the Regular cabs?

 

They aren't according to every aftermarket company.

 

Just wondering.

Well after lots of calls being nice , being nasty , begging , and getting nowhere. Thanks to this site and the printed tsb my truck is finally fixed. The dealer did it right the first time too guess I should be gratefull to them now ugh. Anyway thanks everyone.

 

My local dealership also tried to play dumb. I brought in a copy of the tsb and still caught shit. I got a little loud and some other customers heard what was going on and decided they'd give some input to the tech writer as well. Needless to say it took talking to the shop foreman to get it approved but I got mine fixed. Just keep giving them hell.
