Thinking about getting this 2012 Taco

I'm going to look at this truck in a few days. It is brand new, has the SR5 package, tow package, 2wd, and it is listed at $28,310 (buy around $26k maybe???). My local dealership has 3 of the Magnetic Gray Tacomas that range from $26-29k depending on SR5 packages. This will be my first Toyota. I use to drive an F150 for about a decade. I don't use the truck bed much other than Lowe's trips, getting mulch, tailgating, etc.

Are there any issues with the 2012's I should look out for? Annoyances, must have upgrades, or options you can't live without?

I went to a different dealership the other day and walked around for about 30 minutes looking at them, but none of the salesmen came outside so I didn't sit in them.

    Thanks!

I'm still trying to talk the wife into letting me have the TRD package, but she wants to know why it is worth another $3,500 when we don't need 4wd lol.

If it were me I would get the TRD offroad or Sport. But if thats not in your budget I wouldn't hesitate to get the SR5. Just make sure they have 4 leafs when you buy it. and if you could get 26 that would be a fair price IMO. Good luck

You can still get a TRD and 2wd

Don't settle...shop around, you can find the truck you want for not that much more money.

I'm not sure what the difference is in sport or offroad TRD packages. I would like to get as much as possible for around $26k. We are paying cash, and that is the budget we chose.

That is tough for 26k they run into the 30+ for TRD.

    So this is a PreRunner?

It's a great truck. 4WD was a necessary option for me, but it would be very difficult to get a 4x4 model in at $26K.

    Yeah, it's a PreRunner.

I honestly don't need 4wd, and I would like the extra mpg. I just noticed their website says there are more Tacomas offline, so I'm going to talk to them about 2wd TRD options. I'm pretty picky about colors. I think $26k out the door for the one I posted would be reasonable.

Thanks to WhipperSnapper for posting the TRD info.

First, let me start with the important thing: DO IT!

I drove an F150 FX4 crew cab for a few years, and while I absolutely loved that truck, it was just too big for what we needed. And while there are some things I miss from the F150 (leather, power rear window, 300+ HP V8), the Tacoma has been an awesome truck with far better gas milage. The Taco handles very well (darn right nimble compared to an F150) and parks like a mid-sized SUV.

As far as must-have upgrades, the first thing I did was add the all-weather floor mats and a Pop N Lock tailgate lock. I also added a spare tire lock yesterday, just in case.

I test drove Tacos both with and without the Entune package and though I've become luke-warm on the interface, the difference in sound with the JBL speakers was totally worth it. If it's in your budget, and you like good sound from your truck, I recommend the Entune package.

And for a price comparison, mine was $32K out the door for DCSB TRD Off Road 4x4 w/Entune, and tow package.

unfortunately OP, $26 OTD is not going to happen. Maybe $27 before tax/license and other fees.

Hope things work out in y our favor. With the 2013's comi ng out you should get a good deal.I lucked out and found a demo with 2300 miles on it. Really saved a bundle. Maybe that's an option for you to upgrade to the next level. Good luck and hope things work to your advantage.

Apparently, the 2012's don't have the sag with the 3 springs. My buddy just picked up a 2012 TRD OR 4x4 with 3 leafs and called in about the TSB since he tows a 7000lb boat/trailer from the marina parking lot to the loading ramp. General Manager of the service dept said the 2012 leaf springs were engineered differently and wont sag.

Go in with $2,000 cash down. Stick to your guns on the down, stealerships always pressure for more cash. For you to be bought by the bank, seller has to deeply slash the price of the truck[for the banks ratio]. For the huge discount, seller has to max out the monthies, super high A.P.R. and 60 months till payoff. Sellers, thinking they will make the profit on the back end. Fake it, you really dont care....cash out the first month. If a prepayment penalty, make two payments, then cash out. P.S. Holidays, last day of the month...at night, go in two hours before closing...you will get your deal.

When you test drive one be sure and listen for the engine tick! Almost all new Tacos tick and it really upsets some people so make sure and listen for it and determine if it would upset you in the future.

test drive it, a lot. it's 2wd so probably won't have the drivetrain issues a bunch of us have with our 4x4's.
