Let me see your DIY stock rim paint job

I used the search engine and didn't find what I was looking for, which is several photos of stock rims that were spray painted BLACK. Im looking for pictures with someone who went through the steps of cleaning, sanding, primer, several coats of spray etc.(maybe even clear coat?)

Im on an extreme budget and I have the patience to properly paint these wheels myself, I just want to see some examples if I could please.

PS- I have a stock 2006 single cab pre-runner. Its a maroon/deep red. Thought black would look very nice. Satin not gloss.

all i did was clean them up with SOS pads and rattle canned away.

 

i used 80grit then 150grit and last i believe was somewhere near 300grit, just regular sand paper and my hands,

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed. Very very helpful stuff. I have a feeling its going to be pretty nice looking. I cant decide between semi gloss and flat black. Im thinking the flat black might look too tacky and fake. Well see, its only wheels.

semi will be easier to keep clean flat colors are harder to keep clean

 

I'm wondering if anyone ever paints wheels silver instead of going silver to black? Is anyone just refinishing the wheels or even going black to silver?

 

i used flat on mine and it doesnt look tacky at all. looks pretty good imo

 

Here's mine... Degreased, scotch brite, self etching primer, and 4-5 coats of paint. so far, so good.

 

any trd offroad wheels?

 

Or even any non stock with matte black? Don't wanna jack your thread but would love to see some pics too. Don't know if I wanna powder coat or paint my motto metal chrome ugly thongs

The emblems on the center caps just have tabs on the back and pop off.

 

did mine in about 2 hours with a little help from the father. I did all the sanding and he came behind me with the paint. One coat of primer and one coat of black gloss. didn't do anymore than that because I figure I'll have to hit them again in a few months or sooner depending on the amount of off roading I do. using the playing cards or index cards was such a bad ass idea though (saw someone on here do it). Can't tell you how much time that saves you as opposed to to trying to tape the wheel off.

 

Did my shitty MB Wheels from Discount Tire with scotch-brites, 3 coats of primer and 4-5 coats of Duplicolor. It is a semi gloss that has the tiniest metal flakes in it. Rims look semi gloss shiny black when clean, but when slightly dirty they take on a cool gunmetal look.
