Has anyone used these or own one? I have the need to carry along a second spare as well as some fuel and this seems like a pretty quick solution since it just goes in the receiver.

It is a bit pricey. Anybody have any info or feedback on this type of system?

That's a pretty good idea. I might need to make one of those.

thanks for the link. All that shit is very legit. Not one thing broish. However i absolutely need ALL of the bed space. So it's gotta be on the back.

This right here is pretty sick, but i'm sure it's way more pricey than the tire gate, and more involved too.

thanks for the info. Please keep it coming, this forum is so fckn big it's easy to miss what one's looking for.

Check out the venders here, you may like one that you see. They are kind of pricey but if you want quality then anything worth buying will come with a cost.

But the prices may surprise you as well and you could pick one up like the one above.

yeah the vendors have some nice shit. I've been slowly making my way through the bumper sticky (which was a brilliant fckn idea btw) but nothing so far.

also anyone reading this, i wouldn't be against used shit, and it doesn't have to look pretty, just be completely functional.

The trip is already going to run me a grip, not looking for cheap and shitty but best cost and useful. I can't see needing it after the trip.

Fawk. I did not know this existed. Very cool. Nice you can ditch it if you don't need it [for a trip].

How did you find the price on the hitch gate?

Damn $830 Now I know would make my own version of this. Isn't this the company that got on to someone on here that built a swing-a-way tire carrier?

I would just make your own op, or have a shop fab you up something easy. Would be a money saver if you are only using it once.

Well as far as it goes with you only using it once get someone to weld some 2x2 in an L shape. Weld a toyota hub from a junkyard on the front side with a small extension on it and call it a day. One hole drilled through when you put it in the receiver and you got a custom one made on the cheap. Won't have the appeal of this one but you said function was more important.

not an option, i need full use of the tailgate and bed, an L with a heavy ass tire won't cut it as it's permanent and moving the tire and L twice a day isn't easy or cleanly. Simple idea though.

As for the shop fabbing one up, nothing they make on the cheap will have the utility of a swing out. And no swing out will work correctly with out a proper sturdy mounting point (ie real bumper)

so far the HG seems the best option.

It would be cheaper to buy a welder and some steel. :D

the expense in welding classes and wasted metal experimenting would equal out...and let's be honest. I need to look half way pimp when i roll. I can't represent some 2nd grade welded menagerie

I'll be damned, those are pretty slick! I have my matched spare underneath, but I also had a taller tire put on my stock spare rim so I can use it in an emergency too. I did this for when I go deep into the mountains or desert where it takes more than a day just to walk back to the nearest humans. I've just been tossing it in the back, but this would be way better. Damnit OP, now you've got me thinking I need something else for my truck! :D

Image on the Taco is everything....

Does it have to swing away or could it fold down? I know weight would be an option with that but it is only twice a day.

I have a Thule Bike rack that I'm planning on using to hold my tire carrier. I'm going to build the carrier to work interchangeably with the bike rack system.

Here is the rack I have. The horizontal part that holds the bike folds up and down, and will be replaced with the custom tire carrier. That way, I don't need to buy the expensive swing out bumper, and I still have full use of the tailgate.

What's the price tag on that thing? That's a great idea to build on. Unless the name brand on it kills it.

The ones I found were $300-$500 depending on brand and where you buy from.

The one I have is made by Thule, but I don't remember how much I paid for it back in 2006. The design is so incredibly simple I can't see why somebody who knows how to weld couldn't just build one themselves.
