does the dome light stay off when you turn on any or both the map lights? If not, then it wouldn't matter.

 

works perfect only comes on when it should.

 

We need some pics and maybe a detailed writeup then! I'm trying to picture it in my head and failing. Maybe it's just a long work day and 3 kids killing my mind.

 

ok- the connector on the map lights is a three terminal plug with only two wires in it. reverse the two existing wires, then add a third wire in the unused terminal. run that wire to the dome light which is also a three wire connector and connect the new wire from the map light to the center terminal on the dome light and thats it. I will work on getting pics up.

 

Ok, so flip the map light wires, and link the 2 center terminals? That's it?

 

its the left terminal on the map lights and the center on the dome light

 

Ah. ok. Without a pic I was assuming the maps used the 2 outside terminals. Thanks for clearing that up.

I was reading up on this a little awhile back and decided to go for it today. I ended up with a lot of problems. My power windows quit, my check engine light came on, my brake light came on, my ABS light came on and the mod wasn't functional after completed. Pulled fuses for power windows and they aren't blown. Any ideas?

[Regarding the any time fog lights mod]

EDIT: My buddy and I were looking at it and came to the conclusion that it had to do with the ignition. We pulled the ignition 10a fuse and there it was. All of that failure for one small fuse. Thanks for the help, Piercedtiger!

 

Would help to know what you did or see your wiring I guess. This is the first time I've heard of any problems. Did you check the fuses in the cab as well as under the hood?

 

Well, I did exactly like the diagram instructed. Spliced into the green wire with some wire, ran it right to the fog just like instructed. it looked identical to the picture only I didn't drill the hole. Since I tried that, my train horn quit working, too. So I'm back to the original settings. I pulled the wire and bent it back. It is like stock now only there's a splice in the green wire that's been connected back and taped up. I checked the cab fuses for the windows and they were fine. I don't know how to check the fog fuse, but I will go look again I guess.

 

Is everything back to normal with the fog relay set back to factory setup?

 

Well, with the mod in effect, the lights worked just like the factory setup. I actually noticed that when I turned the fogs to the on position and had brights on, then turned the fogs to off the heads would go off too and i'd have to turn them off and on to get it back on. so it was all glitched up. Regardless of all of this, with the setup back to stock, the lights work like they did stock. It just screwed something up with my ABS light, CE light, Brake light and speedometer needle.. it doesn't move. also, the odometer doesn't count any more.

 

Rather than waiting for my stock mud flaps to break off, I decided to take them off, and keep them in good condition. if I trade in or sell my truck i will put them back on.
First I decided on the length of the new mud flap, and how much overhang from the sides i wanted. i marked the inside of the fender where the top of the mudflap stops.
next i put the new mudflap on top of the original mudflap and marked the 3 rivet holes. Then i drilled holes through the new mudflap.
I noticed that those 3 rivets werent going to hold the new ones in the place, so i drilled another hole to match the inner most screw. Since I broke the rivets pulling the new flaps off I bought nylon nuts and bolts to hold them in place.( wont scratch the inner fender)
I made a 2 1/4 inch stainless steel H bracket to compensate the length of the original molded mud flaps. Used the original screw to hold the bracket in place and a sheet metal screw from the new mudflap to the bracket.
If you have larger tires than stock, you will probably need to make a shorter bracket so it wont rub.
Im pretty happy with the way they turned out.

$111.88 later and I have intermittent wipers without having to pay the $2k to get the whole package.

It took me less than 15 minutes to change out the wiper control stem.

Thanks for taking the time to document the procedure. I still can't believe that this was not included on my truck. I found out that there were no intermittent wippers, the first time I drove my truck in the rain, and now I get pissed off every time I drive my truck in the rain. I didn't even thing to ask for this option when I purchased the truck. It appears that Toyota went out of the way to exclude this switch to force an option package on the customer.

 

Well, look at it this way: you just saved a couple thousand dollars on the package!

 

The mods to disable the seatbelt chime and piezo worked perfectly on my 09 - SAWEET! The stealership said IF they could do it they wanted $50... unbelievable!

As a newbie I'll say this is an awesome thread for someone like me that takes a brand new vehicle with less than a 1000 miles on it and starts tearing stuff off (mud flaps) and putting stuff on (ordered skid plate today), and looking to make mods like those first two, so thanks to everyone that contributes their knowledge here!
