Hello everyone. I have a couple of questions if anyone has time to help me out.

#1 I traded in my 2012 TRD Off Road and picked up a 2012 TRD TX Pro yesterday.
Can someone give me guidance on the best type of Blackouts for front and back, and where they are available? Seems 2012 are not available most places I have looked.

#2 I dont like the metallic gray colored skid plate on my truck. I would like to change the color to Black or Maybe even Red. I keep seeing Plasti Dip posts on the site. Is that really done by dipping or is it a spray can of Rhino Liner type material? DO you guys thing I should just use spray paint for the skid plate?
It seems rough and should hold paint well. If anyone has ideas of what material I need to use to color the skid plate I would appreciate it. Any specific would be great, just so I dont get the wrong stuff.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be weary of blacking out your heads and tails. You can possibly do a super light smoke color for the heads but I dont think you should chance it cause cops will notice that kind of stuff right away. You should be able to smoke out your tails to about a medium darkness but dont black them out completely, again, cops notice all that stuff. Google VHT nite shade, its a spray can that smokes clear plastics. Not sure if thats what your are looking for.

As for your skid plate, just use some type of spray on bed liner paint and you will be fine with just the spray can stuff.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the Nite-Shades. Yes I agree that I have seen a bunch of crappy jobs in my time but I did it myself and its been a few years now and they are holding up very well still. It just depends on how you prep your lights and some other steps to take. There used to be a great write-up on here on how to do it but I cant find it anymore.

To each there own. I didn't even do mine medium, I did one light coat and that was it so my light output is still the same.

I appreciate the quick responses. I am a little behind on mods other than window tint which I have done to all of my previous Tacoma's and my Wife's cars.

Back in the day when I was younger all of my friends, me and most people under 30 in my small town all had front and back blackouts. Never had any issues with cops but maybe times have changed.

The plastic headlight and tail light covers is what I am talking about. They either Velcro on or screw on or snap onto the headlight and tail lights.

From what I am reading here it seems those may be illegal for street use? Is that the case? If so that sucks as I think they make any vehicle look much, much better.

I am not going to be able to paint or smoke my lights with a spray, I would mess that up for sure.

I see, Nightshade is tint. I still want to find plastic snap on black outs. Not having any luck for the 2012 Taco.

Hopefully to assist question #2, Here's the skid plate painted black with a bonded decal, the stars and stripes would look awesome too. http://www.tacomaworld.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/249923/cat/500/ppuser/72163
