Looking back at it also now, been looking at the pics for a while lol, you can actually flip those brackets down on the bottom side of the cleats as well while still being able to fit things underneath along with lowering the rack more from rear view blocking.

You should totally make a batch of those things, I bet you sell them pretty easily.

I've recieved some inquiries to produce some more of these.

Im listening but trying to understand how many sets I'm looking at.

If you have an interest and a price point (set of 4) let me know.

they would be unpainted and come with an 1 1/8 hole (Yakima bar)

I am interested in a set and I think $20 is a good price to included the hardware.

I am interested like we talked about in PM. I'm sure your time is way more valuable than $20 for a set so i'd pay a little more. Definitely not more than $50 though.

Uh how is $20 a good price? What a low ball. Look at the link I posted above...that little bracket is $28 EACH.

OP, do some research on the forum for like things that have sold.

Armor tech offroad made something similar as well, 1 piece and was selling for $20 shipped. Material was like 1/4" thick I believe.

Brian, do you happen to off-road at all? Have you taken the truck out with these and had a decent amount of weight in the basket? Reason I ask if if you have a video camera or something, maybe have someone or set the camera in the back as a confirmation/selling confidence that they hold up well!

I guess my price was a bit low. I was just going off the prices he said. I figured if the metal was $4 then he would still be making $16 off each set. But now that you showed what others have made I can see how mine was low. I would say that somewhere around $50 would be good given the materials that he used.

I think that 20-25 is a good price, and that the other product is over priced. Cost of material being only 1/5-1/6 of the product price is great for OP and extremely attainable to buyers. At 20 bucks, everyone can afford them, and wouldn't hesitate to buy. Now if they were $50, it would take consideration.

I was looking into something like this made by a company called L2S love to surf, they go for 130.00 for 4 and are better fabbed. I haven't bought them cuz I can't justify the price so if under 50 I may be interested.

You would hesitate at $30 still?

And I agree 100% that what I mentionedned was overpriced...but people bought.

All on all OP I apologize. This is your gig and I'm sorry for taking away from it. Sell your product at a price you feel fine with and best of luck! I might be buying a set.

Last thing to the person I quoted, ya material is only $4...you think these things make themselves?

I too looked at and liked the L2S products. I made my inquiries and got back “ we’re out of stock… check our distributors…”. They also had no idea when they would have more stock .. “ having manufacturing issues” or something like that. Again they have/had what I wanted and I would have gladly paid the $130 plus tax plus freight to get them. Keep in mind theirs are not handmade, they come with the mounting hardware, are powdercoated, have instructions and a nice box. I did find one new pair in Cali for $79. L2S might be interested if they knew they had some substantial sales coming. Most of their distibutors looked like Toyota dealers. I would guess for a distributor to make some profit, handle complaints/warranty, etc… there wasn’t enough in it for L2S ?.

I’m a machinist by trade a manager by fate and work for a fortune 100 company. I have access to vendors and suppliers of various items and services. I had the bracket quoted (3 US companies) in 1/8 carbon steel and unpainted. The best price I got back from an old high school friend with no tax was $9.89 each if I bought his minimum of 100. These would be Laser cut and bent on a press .

So I finance this venture with $1000+ dollars in the hopes of selling 25 sets at let’s say $50 bucks per set (4). I stand to make $250 and will to have to package up, pay PayPal, make 20+ trips to UPS/USPS, etc….Not interested. I do think where this works is a local club/group all pay in advance so nobody finances the deal and it all gets locally picked up. Also if someone has an issue it’s a face to face conversation versus not a barbeque fest on some forum.

The Cleat's caution sticker warns against angle loading and damage

The Toyota Cross bar setup limits weight at 100lbs across tw bars and four cleats. That's 25 pounds per.

I wanted this setup to carry cargo box, mountain bikes, skis, kayak, some fire wood, folding chairs, coolers, hand tools, lighter gear, etc.. the Yakima basket’s weight limit is 140 pounds. I’ll bet the Tacoma factory roof system is not much over 100 pounds ? If you go to the L2S web site all the logic and original intentions are solid.

Here’s the drawing I made and used. I traced it on some heavy card stock and sharpied it onto some salvaged steel. I cut with a 50 year old B&D jig saw, drilled it by hand, smoothed it all out with an old Craftsman belt sander and dremel tool finally bent it with a big dead blow hammer. The drawing should help as I shit canned the first one. I been asked twice in just a few weeks “where did you get those ?”…. kind of like saying I made them.

    $.02
