Hello all, i'm a new member. I work at a chevrolet dealership, i've been with them for 7+ years. For the past 3 I've been the parts guy for their body shop. I also answer parts calls, and sell parts to other body shops/mechanic shops via phone. So it's safe to say I've been a GM guy for a while. Well... I like to have a dd i can wheel, gets decent mileage, is comfortable for long periods of time in, has power for those windy/hilly long distance travels, is reliable, can fit gear, and well i could go on but for short: i think the tacoma's what i've been searching for. My h3 alpha has served me well. After driving it for 3.5 years/43k miles with out it being in the shop once its been really good to me. But i'm ready to be back in a pick up, and i can't talk myself into a full size. Here's my very soon to be "old H3" to show there will be good things to come in the future with the taco; although there will be no storm trooper this time ;). I didn't want to make a boring thread with out pictures either

I didn't know if there was going to be a midsize pick up that would handle the duties after the experience i had with the colorado. Well it was clear from the get go- tacoma or fullsize. So I went up to the toyota stealership for a test drive to see what i thought. An old friend had a dbcb trd sport and i always enjoyed riding in it and thought good things about it but i never drove it. We also occasionally fix them in our body shop and from what i've seen they look well built. First thing i noticed once driving was it doesn't have the power the h3 does (5.3L v8), but it has plenty for what it is and what i need. I also dealt with that sluggish 3.5L I5 in the colorado for 2 years so i think i'll be okay with the v6. I've driven the updated 3.7 i5 in the rado's too and they dont feel nearly as good as the 4.0 v6 in the taco. Nor is the build quality the same, as much as i hate to say that. The only things it has going for it vs the tacoma is.. auto headlights :D My old colorado:

That was her and I miss the idea of it, just not the actual truck lol.
Oh and i have to throw in a picture of my first vehicle, helps with the back ground type of thing. Not really, just was
    DIRKPHOTOG011_af1a10eb48a7a5c8a573933013e1118ddfc9f1b4.jpg
And while i haven't actually threw the h3 back into the market, (was planning on it saturday or tmrw night if i get time to do a detail/pictures) i might try and figure something out tomorrow with the GM dealership i work at to pick up the truck i've been searching for night and day for 2 weeks. It's how i purchased my last, except i had mine sold before i bought. I sell it on my own, then they inventory it, and do the sell with no markup so i can get the actual sale value as my trade in value, and then buy the truck from the private seller with the dealerships money, and then buy it from them. If that makes sense.

Anyways enough of the hoopla, "my truck" just popped up on the classifieds tonight. 2010 TRD Offroad, MGM color, 13,800 miles. He's asking $28,700, which is a little more than i wanted to spend. Hopefully he has room to budge, but honestly i don't think i'm going to find any other low miler's for much cheaper (these trucks are spendy and hold there value like none other as i quickly found out :stirthepot:) Here's what i'm going to be calling on tomorrow, no ones ever seen one before!!

If it works out i'll be back to post her up, maybe with a whole new unseen view! If not, i'll keep the thread updated with my hunting. I've been after an 09+ low miler, double cab, short bed, trd offroad, mgm for quite some time. Heck i'd even take a silver but haven't seen many of any color so it would be really awesome if this deal works out!

    Stay tuned,
    -Dirk

Thanks! Can't wait to be an owner, a coworker brought his wifes brothers 2011 dbcb shorty sport today to work to let me test drive it which made the itch even greater. It has a 3" lift with 285/70/17's on it, and it still had plenty of power. So stoked!

Thanks sloth, i sub'd to those threads as i haven't seen them before. I should be in one soon and be able to make that sept meet! I work at Gene Harvey Chevrolet in American Fork.

Thank you, lol yeah my sales department kept trying to convince me to get back in one with the v8 but i wasn't havin' it. Then it went to the fullsize vs tacoma argument, and i still didn't budge. So they eventually sided with me and told me to just make sure i repent after i buy it and i should be okay :D

    Thank you!
    Thanks
    Thanks
    You as well, thanks.

It is really nice to have such a warm welcome, this forum seems quite nice. I've been ghost browsing it for the past couple of weeks and it looks very promising. So again thank you all!

I have an update, which is going a different direction then yesterdays plan. That guy with the mgm doesn't want to budge from his price of $28,700. It must be what he owes... There is the same truck, 2010, but in silver with 23k miles, listed for 29,300. Most the 11's and 12's for sale are 29,900 or 30+. So i went up to our used car manager today, and lone behold he knows the general manager up at karl malone toyota pretty well. He called him up to see what they could do on a 2012 trd offroad, dblcb short, tow package, in the mgm. Well i was quite surprised at the number they came up with. They have one on the lot and would sell it to me or the dealership whichever i prefer for $30,704 which is after the $500 rebate toyota's currently offering. Now i'm thinking about going for it. I see others got a little better deal on their 12's but not much. I know i've read comments from many in other threads asking why would you pay that much for new when not much has changed. Well for me, and what i'm looking for, it really isn't much more than what i'm going to pay for a 2-3 year old with low miles. Plus I dig the dash changes, black carpet, and front end on the 2012's. So right now my thoughts are... I'm going to do it!! Just gotta get this damn h3 listed. I'm thinking about running back up there after work to see what they would give me for it. If they'd give me 23-24,000 (which is high book trade in, doubt it) i would do it. I only owe 4k on it, and didn't want to have my loan be more than 10,000. If i can get it close to that figure with a good interest rate, i'm all in. I don't want to trade it in where i work, mainly because i don't want to drive by it everyday until it sells haha.

Again, i'll keep ya posted.
