Solid Axle Swap BS Thread

    Yea see I am not sure of all that. If I do it I want to run 35-36 inch tires and not have to worry about getting a stronger rear axle until I need one. So I want to know what is the best thing to do up front?

    Get a toyota axle from 1985 and earlier and flip it http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/rotated_housing/. (if you don't care if it's not toyota) then you can run a D44 wagoneer axle from a jeep. You really cannot use the rear axle for the front, don't think anyone has ever done it/will do it. The d44 wagoneer axle will be close to stock width than the toyota axle.

    Yea I wasn't talking about using the rear for the front just wanting to keep the rear and see what was the most common axle to use up front. I've located a 80 and 83 model pickup now if I can talk them down on price a little. Is there anything negative about flipping one of these axles also how much work will need to be done to make the front axle the same width as the rear? Thanks

    The only negative thing is that the width will not be the same as the tacoma. You can make the width wider by either using 3" spacers, or upgrading the brakes on the axle.

    If you don't use a Tundra/Tacoma caliper, you have to use Sky's IFS widening kit, with IFS calipers and a FJ60 rotor, (along with the IFS hubs, and locking hubs). If you want to use a Tacoma/Tundra caliper, you need the caliper, rotors, FROR's braking kit, ifs hubs, and ifs locking hubs.

    Either one will widen your stance by about 3". The FROR setup will widen it about 3/8-1/2" more because now you are including the thickness of the rotor.

    Wow that is a lot of stuff lol. I have been reading as much as I can while at work. Been thinking and this is just a thought about the Tg kit and using the D44.

    I'm running the a yota axle with 2in spacers and it's pretty close to being on the money. Another option, as mentioned, would be to run the FJ60 rotors and you can use 95 and back, V6 calipers. However, 79-81 you will have to run FJ40 rotors. Those years the rotors bolted to the hub, where 82-85 were pressed in. I found out the hard way :rolleyes:

    I will, the truck wont go up on he lift for a while I still have some research and a lot more to buy first. I am putting on new bumpers and a bed rack before the SAS.
