I already have the charcoal filter removed and a k&n should I drop 250+ on a afe intake or just buy some nabs? Is the power gain noticeable?

Removing the charcoal filter doesn't do anything for you on the V6. Save your money, get a good, quality drop in filter, like the AFE Pro Dry and go for the NFab. FWIW, I didn't even notice a difference between a high flow filter and a stock filter. The CAI will just create more noise for you. Stock intake already draws cold air so there isn't any real benefit to upgrading.

X2. Keep the paper and get that POS K&N out of your truck. I can personally vouch how shitty they are and how much better a OE paper type filter is.

The only upgrade to the intake I will ever recommend is an Safari snorkel and that's only for people who wheel.

seriously, dont spend on an intake, toyota designed a system designed for all kinds of situations that will give ultimate effieciency.

ask any intake manufacturer if they will warranty their product as toyota did when new.

then try and find any restriction in the factory setup. i will hack off my muffler before any under-hood mod. and no, that wont increase power, but at least ill be able to hear the motor over my tires.

those darn auto-engineers are pretty sharp. trust them.

yes the AFE SI2 or the Gen 1 TRD is worth it. it's good for 15whp as per Gadget. Add a URD Maf Cal and you'll be at a 20-25whp gain. I just did these 2 mods and they are noticable. Most other intakes/drop-in's are garbage on the 1GR

Post up where Gadget said that either of those cold air intakes, by themselves, produced gains of 15 hp at the wheels? Plain and simple, there's no way otherwise we'd all have them by now. I'm not saying Gadget didn't say that, I'd just be willing to bet there were other mods along with the intake that helped produce those numbers. 1-5hp is probably a more reasonable range for just the intake.

No other mods, just a TRD Gen 1 CAI or AFE Stage 2Si? I hate to say it, but I really think you misunderstood or something was taken out of context. You won't gain that kind of power just from the CAI itself. 15hp at the wheels is a pretty significant jump.

    Check this out:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/performance-tuning/229882-n-power-gains-dynos-w-mods.html

The second dyno run is the URD True CAI and a MAF calibrator. It gained about 18 hp at 5,500 RPM. With the TRD Gen 1 CAI, it might be possible to have similar gains under ideal conditions, but it's at the red line so, in my opinion, not usable power. In the range most people operate their trucks, even if you go to the track, you'll only experience minor gains at best from the CAI itself.

aFe pro dry seems to work. Truck seems to run better and my daily commute gas has improved by 1.1 mpg (mostly highway miles to work)
