Yea I know kits can be meh... but I can always upgrade later as stuff states falling apart lol. I've been looking at sky and front range off road as far as kits go. I'll have to see what I need for the axles to make them work with my truck.

Hardly the comparison I was making. A more appropriate race would be Shannon Cambells IFS rig and Wyatt's truck. Sorry Wyatt but my money would be on Shannon in the dez.

My point was the average SAS is not necessarily light years ahead of an IFS in the rocks just because its SA, all the differences lie in the individual build itself.

That being said I will still race Eric :p

Hell..... My money would be on Shannon's truck too. I don't have 550 HP in my truck and only weighing 2300 lbs. Not to mention the fact that im at 6125 lbs with 245 hp and can carry four people in general comfort. Shannon has one seat and enought room for a small water bottle. So that's not a good comparison either

Yes. Your right. The average sas is not light years ahead of the ifs. Infact you would need to put a lot of articulation in the sased truck to show a vast improvement in the rocks. The difference starts to show in the strength or weakness of the front cv joints in a stock ifs truck compared to that is a stock solid axle truck. Seems from what I've seen on the trails that the stock cv trucks tend to break front end parts much more than the stock solid axle trucks do on the same trails.

Then when you start to factor in the ease of gaining more droop from a solid axle truck Than ifs the differences become greater as you start to move up in capibility. Now you can throw in Shannon's truck If you want but his one cv axle cost more than my entire front end and my rear axle combined. Not many of us are going to spend that much money on cv axles even if we could get them and then build the suspension system to use that cv.

Neither is a 50k SAS against a 10k LT setup. I was just addressing some of the SAS is better just because its a SAS that was going around. And yeah...I realize i am in a SA BS thread...

And it is soooo nice with the DC...carrying four adults is something a first gen just can't do. Even my wifes 02 DC is just too small.

Yes. I know. It's a BS thread so a lot of it is in jest. There is a bunch of good info coming from this though that others can glean from.

In a whispered tone..... "I'll still race you though" ;P

Yes i did. Went up to Big Bear a couple of weekends ago and in the midst of one hell of a rain and hail storm we got to test it pretty good. It was night and day compared to the leaf sprung suspension I had back there. It was a ton more stable at high speeds and would soak up the bumps like they weren't there. It was really wet and slippery so I couldn't tell a big difference in the rocks yet but will go again when it dry. I don't have sway bars on yet and we thought I would need them but after driving it through the fire roads at speed and on the street it seems more stable than before with about the same body lean as before. I am very impressed with how it turned out.

Check out my build thread on rocksolidtoys. When I get back to my computer I'll throw some stuff up on this thread.

It's a three link system with 18" coilovers with a new rock jock a le in the rear.

i thought so, just making sure. I read your whole build last night. Thanks for making such an in depth buildthread man. It helps a lot. I am trying to find a way to build mine in the middle. Its not going to be as extreme as yours but I dont want it to be shit either. I want to be able to do harder trails and do them easier but still DD it. I am not building a crawler per say but something that is stronger than my IFS and can perform decently on the rocks.

Then you want to see the baby beast. That's Dans truck we built and he could drive it daily if he wanted to.

We never really did a build thread on it but you can find it on RST. It is probably the most balanced sased truck over ever seen. It's really a very good truck.

Dumb question, but what's the purpose of the rear limit strap? So the angled shocks don't bind?

    Love the tube beds btw!

Nope! It's so they dont over extend and damage the shocks in the rear.
