1st gen sas

steering, axles, gears, locker and wheels/tires add up to more than 1500, are you sure you're looking at their expenses right?

cause you can cut off all that crap and throw a junkyard d44 on there with salvaged leafs, but it wont be too fun to drive...

 

i am saying there is other ways to do it one being a 4 link with coilovers or basic with leaf springs. i have not looked into a LT but it looks like there is only really one way it can be done

 

you could probably get all junk yard parts and do it for under 1500 if you got really good deals on things. but as soon as you re-gear and put lockers and fiddle with suspension and steering and drive lines and tcases and tires and armor and winches and spares it shoots past 1500 so fast it isnt even funny.

I think you've got people "hating on someone trying to sas their rig" confused with "trying to inform someone of just how many expenses can come along with SASing a rig".

What did these $1500 builds include? People getting insane deals or expensive stuff for free isnt really useful to the typical aspiring wheeler.

 

leafs wouldnt be to pricey for a new pair. and you can sell your front end parts. to make a little cash to throw back into it. i sold my spare front differential for $300

new leafs with shackles and bushings can run over 800 for front and rear and then another 400 for bilsteins at 4 corners

 

yea as long as you buy your parts ahead of time to get good deals you can score on killer deals like that. also if you work on a buddies car he dont got cash maybe he has some extra parts and stuff you can trade for.

i got new leafs, bushings, shackles, shocks, and extended brake line for rear of my truck for $480 from allpro and shackles were bought in town for like $20 or $30 i dont remember. and you can keep the rear the same you dont need new leafs all around when you buy them keep the rear the same and just buy it for the front

 

the argument here was that 2500 gets it "done right"

 

yea craigslist is awsome especially if you could maybe leave work in a hury to go get on a good deal like that alot of the deals are on weekends so you are always racing people to get there.

 

gets the SAS "done right" to many people are extending this out to wheels and other shit.

 

a $1500 built tacoma is not even possible...unless you got everything for free, which is unrealistic. And if you build it for 1500 it would last about 1 trip before 5 things broke.

I could argue that an unlocked SAS with weak axles can get passed by built IFS truck
Though, I'll also say I havent seen your friends wheel their trucks (before their new additions)

no, one trip down the street. But for 1500 bucks everything you throw under it would be so shitty it wouldn't even be street legal.
