Trying to set in stone the most I should pay for a 2012 AC V6 4x4 sport. I would like to get it for $28,500 tops. Since the 2013's are already on the lots. What would your top price be?
The vehicle was listed for $30,680. msrp sticker was $31, 600.
I am budgeting 28-30k . But $28,500 would be before TTL.

BEFORE tax and title thats fairly reasonable. My 09 had a sticker of $28.5k and I paid $28k. It was a Double Cab though and no 4x4, but still a sport. Cab size doesnt do a whole lot for price, and 4x4 is pricey and also considering this is a 2012, I actually dont think thats enough. I'd budget $28-30 plus tax.

EDIT: on Toyotas website, Sport is not offered in access cab, only double cab. So the access cab with OR package shows $31,875 and the double cab sport shows $32,280 (add $2000 for Entune)

So for $500 more you can get a full size... I wouldnt waste the money on an access cab. Get a DC. and now that I see those prices, good luck getting it for less than $30k plus tax and title.

Since the website is almost 100% spot on with dealer sticker prices, id say with the sport package and 4x4, expect to spend atleast $33,000 total. Maybe a a grand less at best, minus any rebates as well (which i dont think they have anyways)

I wouldnt count on it. Best bet is to walk into a dealer that has the model you want, sit down and tell them straight up: "I have $30k to spend and that has to include TTL, a penny more and this wont work, so if thats not reasonable, please tell me now so we dont waste each others time. I WILL NOT go a penny more than $30k TOTAL, so DONT try and sell me on it!" (be sure to include that your payment is irrelevant!!!!!!) If you give them a payment amount you can afford, they will find a way to make your payment that much regardless of the vehicle price. Negotiate your total price, then work on payment

see what they say. I gurantee they will come back talking about how this is a high demand vehicle and markup is low and there just isnt room for that type of discount, etc, etc, etc. If they tell you ok maybe lets punch numbers and see, then see what happens. If they think its way too far off, they will just walk you. simple as that really.

If they say the best they can do is $31000 including TTL, then ask for what the payment is. If they say $500 and you know your limit is $450, tell them you will take it for the $31000 if they can make the payment $50 less and not a penny more... follow me. By doing this, they will either reduce the price more, lower your APR, or extend your loan term. After you come to an agreement on APR, loan term, monthly payment, AND overall total in writing, then you slam them with the down payment...

lets say you have $5000 to put down, from the start you tell them you only have $2000, they will beg you for more and maybe tell them you can get $2500 at most. After you negotiated ALL your terms above with the smaller down payment, then you tell them you decided to put an extra $2500 down. Since they already promised you a TOTAL PRICE, APR, LOAN TERM, AND PAYMENT, they cant suddenly change something now. This means your new down payment will reduce your monthly payment that you agreed on by approx $20 per $1000 down. Just saved another $50 in the above example, which now gives only a $400 payment.

Whatever you do, DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT tell them what payment you can afford. You tell them the payment does NOT MATTER you can afford any payment. You negotiate price first, then payment.

They will call you a liar once you negotiate for a lower payment, and you tell them Im not a liar, "I was negotiating... im sure you havent been 100% honest with me through this whole thing either, am I right... exactly! Your in sales and so am I... Your selling me the truck, Im selling you on what I want to pay, we are both just doing our rolls in this" :)

Can you tell I've bought a few cars in my day lol

Well as you said now that the 2013s are rolling onto the floor, You can bet they are trying to move the 2012s so id say with the 4x4 and the TRD sport package... Id say id pay no more then 27.5. Set a price man and just go to a few dealerships. Im sure if you start a deal with one of the salesman and you dont like the price, hes gonna try his best to stop you from walking out of that door WITHOUT the keys to a 2012.
