So before I am flamed I want you to know that I searched what I could find and also read the HID faq and several different threads associated with it.

And I am still convinced I need hid's, most likely because the last 3 vehicles I have owned had them and once you get them you never want to be without them. So I went looking around to see what I could find. Well most of the kits out there are just that a harness, bulbs, and crap ballasts.

Then I found these http://www.protuninglab.com/hidxe05...medium=adwords&id=20749299298&utm_content=pla which actually have the housings so I don't have to cut mine all up. I was wondering has anyone seen these or better yet have any experience with them??

If you know of any good kits that are out there I am all ears, I really want a good looking FUNCTIONAL kit, but that doesn't cost 1500 for the setup.

    Thanks in advance,
    -James

For this price I am suspect. If you get them and they work great for all seasons, let us know.

The only problem I see with those James is that the "Standard " warranty is only 30 days and they want to ding you extra for a one year warranty, IMO I wouldn't buy them.

I saw those same exact ones on the same exact website. The warranty is 30 days. So I went with retrofits, the warranty on this is 5years :D

I am not opposed to spending more $$$ but since I am so new to the Taco world I was a little apprehensive about cutting up my housings. How hard was it to get the retrofit kit to fit, line up, and have a good beam. I am just worried if I tackle it myself that my lights will be all over the place.

Get a Morimoto Mini D2S or H1 kit from theretrofitsource.com Total project if purchased through a group buy should cost about $250-300 installed and a day worth of labor. You dont have to modify anything permanently, these bolt into your stock housings without cutting. You do have to open them up, but thats easy. And alignment is easy on those as well. The FX-R kit is the advanced one that requires cutting up.

If you just buy a standard HID kit, itll be about $50 and its plug-n-play with no modifications, but you will blind everyone. I did this for 3 years and finally purchased an FX-R retro last month. Still waiting to install it but it will be done soon. Well worth every penny, and still about the same price as what you were already going to spend. A group buy is going on now but i think orders must be placed by friday. Search for "Round 10 hid group buy" that will bring it up. Lots of usefull info in that as well. If your going to spend almost $300 on lights, dont but those cheap aftermarket lights. They give crappy light output and your better off sticking with stock. The reflector cut-off is horrible on those projectors. Dont be afraid to mod your headlights, it is worth it and that is the only way to do it right. Every single person on this forum will agree with that statement, I guarantee it!

    I agree.

I went with a set of cheap DDM tuning HID bulbs in the stock housing, and they died in less than a year. So I am going with the FX-R kit and doing it right the second time. If you are still a bit apprehensive about anything, call up the guys at TheRetroFitSource and they will be more than happy to help you figure out what is right for you.

Also, if you don't want to pull the trigger right now, wait untilk the Round 11 group buy. There is usually only a month or two between each group buy. And that will help you save up a bit more $$$ too.

Thanks for the info I have done quite a bit of reading on the D2S and it seems the way to go, I also read a couple of write ups on the slimcubby setups, they seemed very easy to install as well. I think I will definitely head this direction because I want them and I want to do it right....not to mention the ballasts that the cheap ass kits offer always go out, and I don't want to have to always wonder if my lights are going to come on or not.

    Thanks again,
    -James

When you order a d2s or h1 kit it comes with bulbs and ballasts and projectors and shrouds and everything. No need to order a slim cubby kit along with d2s kit
