When I first bought my truck, the backup camera displayed in the rear view mirror. The sales rep switched it over to the nav display for me. It did not occur to me at the time to take note of how he did this. But the point here is that IT IS POSSIBLE to switch between display. Someone just have to find the hidden key.

Actually now that I think about it. I vaguely remember you had to be in either park or reverse before you change the setting in the rear view mirror. I'll have to remember to try this tomarrow. I'll post back results if I remember to. If I don't, I am sure someone else will...

If that's so, and you can't remember how it was done, please call your salesman and find out. There are a few of us that want to know.

I was going to try and get to the bottom of this soon. I have not had much time, but i am pretty sure it is possible. I will get an EWD from my contacts at the dealership I used to work at and start figuring it out.

My goal is to have a switch that will enable the rearview mirror cam ONLY, at anytime. So your nav will work, and you can look behind you while driving.

It will involve sending the camera signal directly to the rearview mirror via a switch, and bypassing the entune.

    >>I haven't forgotten about this. I did give it a try yesterday but no-go. I am certain that there is a certain sequence of events between park/reverse, brake, handbrake, key position, etc. I'll call the guy on Monday to see what he says. So shocking that this information is not already available. But we will get to the bottom of this, as I like the display on the nav but want to be able to switch back and forth just because I can, :D.

I test drove 2013 a few weeks ago. It had entune/jbl/etc and I noticed during the test drive, the image displayed on the rear view camera. I asked the salesmen about it and he said once you purchase the truck, the entune gets "activated" and at that time the camera switches over. I have no idea how, and I did not buy the truck, but just wanted to add to the info for you guys. Good Luck!

Im sure if I had a truck to look at I could figure it out easily, but I dont know anyone local in SoCal that wants this done. If your local and want me to look at your truck and figure this out for you guys I can.

What part of SoCal? I'd be willing to get together to figure this out if you can offer any help. I'm pretty good with electronics but I don't know how they've done it. If it's software (which from your post and the previous ones it seems it is) then how could we figure it out?

I tried to see if it's tied to hardware by counting the wires, my harness is full and maybe someone's isn't if they have on Entune, but no one offered a pic of the back of their mirror. Though it sounds from your description like it is indeed software.

Just following up on my previous post:

According to the sales rep, the Entune software (which is written by an independent third party -- makes sense to me as this is how everyone is doing it nowadays) does not currently support the rear view mirror camera . Yes, this does mean that if you want to use the rear view mirror, then you cannot have Entune. In fact, the latest Entune update went in and removed the previous option to switch display view. So it doesn't look like there are future plans to support it any time soon either....I know how it feels. I spent 30 mins of my life argueing this to the point of no return....I guess its time for a hardwired override switch mod after all :)

I'm in Pomona near cal poly and my sac. I'm positive its a software thing (as now confirmed) so it has to be a hardwired override. It has to be possible. We have 2 screens with video inputs, and 1 camera that supplies that video. If the picture already shows up on the entune, is only a matter of finding the input wires and manually tapping onto them and routing onto the camera. With electrical, anything is possible. I'm sure it can be done. We just need to say screw the software and hardwire it ourselves and skip the computer

BUMP! I just found this thread and this is the best idea ever! Now I cant stop imagining how awesome it would be to hook up both display screen and rearview mirror to the back up camera. I dont have the entune nav, just the stock touch screen radio display screen that comes with the 2013 SR5 package. I really hope I can still have the back up camera display on it somehow along with the one I have in the rearview mirror.

It's totally possible as the camera wires pass by the left of the steering wheel. There's a connector there too, you could either buy the stock connector from Toyota and make a "y" cable or just use taps to get the video signal to the mirror.

This is a little different then what the people here
are trying to accomplish, but is actually easier. We have to wait for a company to make an aftermarket video input for it. My guess is that the first company will be PAC. Once they make a video in for the base model touch screen, we can hook the camera right up

Exactly. Its not hard. Just need to tap the wires on their way to the head unit, and split them off and manually force them to connect to mirror or vice versa. I'm thinking that the camera image signal is being sent to both, but what it being changed it the reverse trigger that tells the screens to turn on/off. If thats all it is, then we just tap the reverse wire and run it to the camera or radio respectively. Its going to be simple. Just need something with the right tools and knowledge (which I have) and who also has a 2012+ to work on (which I dont).

The camera signal is definitely being sent to both according to all the info we've gotten, based on the posts that the mirror was working then stopped displaying it once Entune was activated.

    Have you seen this thread?
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...anytime-rear-view-camera-switch-dash-mod.html

I haven't gone through in detail, but some of those wires are forcing the mirror to display the camera feed even without being in reverse. I wonder what happens if one does that mod on an Entune-equipped truck...

Could be as simple as, instead of using a switch, just use a relay tripped by the reverse wire somewhere (essentially making the above mod 'automatic' when you go in reverse). I say simple, but I don't really wanna be splicing and running a bunch of wires around just to get functionality that's already there and being disabled by software for no good reason...

Well software is one thing we can't get around without a dealer flash, which won't happen in a million years. I'm almost positive a simple 12v signal to 1 or more of the wires at the middle will trigger the display. It has to be that simple. I have a probe that can test to see if video is being supplied first before we cut anything. Then we need a wiring diagram from the FSM to see whig wires supply trigger, test those with the probe also until we find once missing. Then apply voltage, still without cutting or splicing anything, if it works then I build a quick easy relay setup or maybe just a simple jumper wire or toggle depending how its set up. Offer is still open to local member of you want to meet up on a not so hot day and we can make this happen. The tool that makes this easy to do and possible to test:
