How to get your rear TSB (period)

All you have to do is look at your frame above the bump stop. Plain and simple. If your frame has been hammering off the bump stop it is unmistakably marked up the yin yang! If it is not then put 10 bags of Quickcrete in the bed and go offroading for 20 minutes. It will be marked up then.
All you have to do is point the marking out to the service manager.
Any fool can determine that the truck has been hammering the bump stops. It is undeniable.
Then show him the TSB. Use the terms "harsh ride".

No one could deny that the truck is hammering the bump stop. Hammering off the bump stop creates a harsh ride. The TSB is deigned to correct this problem for customers who forked over big bucks to own a Toyota.

When I first brought the problem to the attention of the my service rep he said they would have to inspect the vehicle before any warranty work could be performed.
Wasted half a day of PTO but I did it. When I brought the truck in the receiving service rep tried to smoke me out by saying "We may have to load it and drive it". "Load away", I said. "And I'm sure you'll inspect the frame above the bump stops, too". Anyway, I sat and read in a chair at the dealer for an hour and a half. My truck went nowhere, loaded or otherwise.
They approved it and put the parts on order and I got the TSB done today.

 

cool. Thankfully I didnt have to go through all that. lol

 

This is the first I am hearing of TSB. What does this stand for? I have a 2008 PreRunner.

Hello, I brought my 2007 Tacoma double cab to dealer for accelrator retrofit, I mentioned TSB for spring and they said they would check if i qualify. I picked up my Totota and service rep said my 3 year warranty was over, I only have 21,000 miles but 3 year is up. I have extended warranty still covering but rep said TSB only covers original warranty, not extended? Why not? Also if you do accelerator recall take your mats as they replaced my mats with thinner ones, since they say the thick mats may be part of the problem (could be but those thick mats are good) I tried to call to get my old mats back to use for padding my bed during loads but the rep never called me back. Any advice ob service bulletin and extended warranty which is from Toyota?

 

Do you realize the bump stops are an actively designed component of the suspension system, and that at the extremes of normal operation it is expected that they will contact the frame and compress?

 

Evidently. The dealership that I went to said the bump stops had to show exessive wear before they would do the rear spring tsb. Mine had been hitting the frame although they did not show exessive wear. They refused to do the tsb.

 

That is true however, when the bump stops are repeatedly compressed during normal everyday driving with a load that is well under GVWR, there is a problem. I had mine addressed simply because I like to haul things and use my Taco as a truck. I was very disappointed the first time I loaded two dirtbikes in the back and the rear end bounced/banged on the bumpstops repeatedly as I left my neighborhood. Driving over expansion joints on the freeway would about rattle your teeth loose. The 2000 taco I traded in on this truck NEVER had that problem.
