In Shenandoah my favorite place is Lewis Mtn. There's only 45 sites so it doesn't get over crowded, and I've had deer walk right up into my site while cooking breakfast on several occasions. You've hit the end of the season though, check the National Park website, but I think all the places along Skyline are closed or closing. fYou can still do backcountry camping though.... It all depends on what you're looking for, I do a lot of backcountry camping, and I always try to plan my campsite not too far from a stream.

Edit: South River Falls is a great hike, and a really nice tall waterfall... There's nowhere close to camp though unless you do backcountry. Have fun !!!
