Yeah, I'm going to log a couple wells, just fill-in work. Not sure if I'm steering too or just logging (I think it's just logging, that operator generally steers their own wells). Either way I'll take it, Rockies division is slow and I prefer being paid to not being paid.

Still waiting to hear about the interviews. I had 7 of them in 2 weeks, but they were all through the companies' college recruiting programs so they have to finish their recruiting trips to all the colleges where they recruit before they make their choices. I should start hearing back in the next week or so, I would think.

Good times. How's it going on the other border, Keith?

I live in the SF Bay Area, seismically speaking, this is the American Ground Zero for earthquake science. The Japan quake was a sobering reminder of how much we don't know and what it could cost us. Our building codes are the most stringent in the country. If you go out to the coast just south of SF proper you can check out the point were the SA fault splits into the sea, you can walk off of the NA Plate onto the Pac Plate. The whole western US is such a fascinating place geologically because of these forces.

No kidding? Wow, totally, like the weird North-South strike slip nature of the SA? It's not logical. Or my fav, the Cascadia Subduction Zone, there's a mother of a fault, that's the northern end of the SA, THAT sucker, scientists are figuring out, is capable of some ungodly quakes, serious tsunami city type of action. I'll tell ya what, every time I drive the North Coast from Cali and Oregon, I pay attention to the Tsunami Zone signs, there are entire big stretches of coast that if you don't know where to run quickly, you're as good as dead.
I grew up with earthquakes, it's part of life. You haven't lived until you've ridden out a moderate quake 4 stories up in a wooden Victorian. I watched my street ripple in Loma Prieta and I was 90 miles from the epicenter. It's luck of the draw whether you live or die but knowing what to do is ingrained into us from childhood. If I had to choose, I'd rather live in the Ring of Fire rather than Tornado Alley.

Since we were (kind of) on the subject of what we do and do not know about earthquakes...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-20025626

Geologists guilty of manslaughter for issuing a scientific opinion, complete with appropriate cautionary statements. Geez. I guess that's why we vacation in Italy, rather than living or working there.
