+1 for fuelly.com; have mine set to odometer instead of trip, that way there's never a screw up on the mpg calc by forgetting to reset trip. I also avoid topping off when pumping, but that's just personal preference.

X2.. I use Torque regularly. 5 bucks for the app and 15 for the obdII Bluetooth sensor. Plug it in, set up your vehicle profile, and create your torque dashboard with all the readings you want. Air fuel ratio, intake temp, HP, torque, 0-60 times, avg. MPG, real time MPG, and a TON more. You can also check and clear CEL's and a bunch of other cool stuff.

I just keep track of it in my head. I reset my trip odometer every time I fill up out of habit. I've been driving my truck for 3 years now and know I get 15-16 mpg on average. I got about 18 when the truck was completely stock. 16-17 when I upgraded to 265/75/16's. Then dropped to 15-16 when I lifted and upgraded to 285/70/17 tires.

Reset a trip meter when you fill the tank. At your next fill-up -- preferably at the same station using the same pump -- note the number of gallons added and note the distance travelled on the trip meter. Divide distance by gallons to get your fuel economy for that most recent tank of fuel burned.

I also use fuelly.com, however I do wish they had an app for it... the browser works fine and all, but I hate having to zoom in and more than once I've hit the "go" button on my RAZR and it's tried to upload before I was ready.

Hadn't seen aCar before, so I might have to check that out. Only downside is that Fuelly has my truck's entire fill up history... I'm odd enough that I would likely reinput all that into a new app just for continuity... :(

The paid version of aCar will let you import your Fuelly data. Export it from Fuelly to a spreadsheet and then import the spreadsheet to aCar. That's what I did - worked great.

Fuelly is stupid easy to use once you set it up for SMS. Then it's just sending a short text to a saved contact. Miles price gallons comments in that order and send.

So I never forget: fill truck, send fuelly, reset trip, reset ultragauge trip, and by that time I can read the fuelly response text that gives that tank mpg + current overall.

thats fine and dandy but i track alot more than just fill ups for vehicles. if thats all i tracked then fuelly.com would be great.

Yeah I think for fuelly you'd need one cell phone per car and no swapping! That would be no fun.

For a single vehicle person like me though it works just dandy as far as free offerings go. I would, however, like the ability to call up history on-the-go and a-car looks like it might be tempting me with that. I was smart and didn't buy an iphone, and therefore life has the option to be better :p

Either is much better than my old way: write into a notepad all the stuff, once every couple weeks take the notepad in and start entering into spreadsheet, or later, the cleanmpg mileage page. Tedious.
