does defrost run ac compressor

Like some of my previous vehicles does the defrost run the AC compressor to dry the air? I noticed the AC light stays off when I switch to defrost.

 

Yes it runs the ac compressor.

Dam dumb thing is.wasting my gas. I should mod in a switch for the option. Thanks for the info.

 

Or just use the middle "floor" position. It also sends lots of air to the windshield.

 

Some have done exactly that.

Defrost and feet is my favorite mode here is Wisconsin. I'm pulling this wire tonight. Thanks for the tip gentlemen.

 

I've cut my green wire. works fine.

Doing this mod this weekend for sure. I guess the '12-13's need to not only cut the green wire, but also splice it back into the pink?

 

I just pulled the a/c fuse under the hood for the winter. That way, when my a/c clutch siezes up from lack of use all winter, I can put the fuse back in and have Toyota replace the clutch for free.

 

Hang the fuel usage I like mine coming on by it's self I would rather see then worry about a tiny drop in mileage. Ever modern car/truck I have owned comes on in defrost it's not just the Tacoma.

 

Out west we don't have humidity like the East does so we don't need the a/c to defog our windows, so there is no point in the a/c running.
