does anyone know if the Avid offroad rock sliders stick out far enough to use as a step? my wife is on the short side so she could use a step, but i think the sliders look 10x better the step. thanks!

Just an FYI , they aren't actually sliders as much as steps that look like sliders

They don't bolt to the frame but actually mount to the factory running board fastener locations in the floor of the cab

I have their weld on sliders and they do work/help as steps. Their bolt on sliders are ment to be steps and he can build them to your specs if you want them to be lower too

They are high if you are lifted a bit, and depending on coating can be slick in wet conditions.
Better looking than N-Fab and more clearance.

Agree with Oh-man. I have the Avid bolt on sliders with only a 4 leaf pack in the rear and Bilsteins at 1.75 in the front. The Avid sliders are pretty tight to the rocker panel and are up pretty high to be a good step. There isn't a lot of surface area to step on and they can ge slick

Very good build quality, easy installation and they offer some protection from mild rocks and branches, etc. but if your primary need is a step I would look for other options.

You could do these...$$$ though or ask one of the many slider builders to change the angle and add fill in plates. Those could be Line X'ed for traction.

    Yeah.
Hey Oz and Oh-Man, do the Avid bolt-on sliders really attach to the cab/rocker panel? Is that the same for the step bars?

My wife is barely 5 feet tall and has spawned similarly vertically challenged daughters, so I have been looking at options as well. I have come to the realization that until my truck gets old, I probably won't be doing anything that requires real sliders and have been looking at the Avid step bars. I had Westin tube steps on my last 2 Tacomas, and they bolted to the frame. They did a good job of protection on my 1st gen. Some of the newer Westin tubes bolt to the rocker, so I have passed them up and was assuming that the Avids bolt to the frame.

Anyone know what the best options are for FRAME bolt-on steps or sliders are? Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and go full bore with BAMF, FF or Slee.

Yes , the Avid bolt ons bolt into the mounting locations for the factory running boards in the underside of the cab floor , same for NFabs etc

well, i was looking more into the whole sliders thing, and saw the 30% off BAMF sliders, do you have to manually drill holes in your frame to connect them? (i saw some holes on there but they didnt seem big enough for a good bolt) and if you have to manually drill your frame, is it that hard? or is it pretty simple (this is the first truck i've ever began to mod)

    thanks!

Slee makes great products (mainly for LC Wagons 80's and such)...but they are real proud of them....lots of $$$. My friend has them on his 80 and they are real nice, but cost him like $1200!
