Anyone out there? Been thinking about it lately, watch both seasons of Doomsday Preppers and of course it has me thinking.. What/how are you prepping?? Doesn't matter if it's just keeping a box of MREs or stocking up on ammo.. Let me hear when you have to say! :)

I prep by not wasting my time prepping. Live each day expecting the best or you have nothing to strive towards.

I don't know if I'd call myself a prepper but I keep a certain amount of food in my Taco for MTN biking and in case I break down. As far as the house goes I have plenty of long term food and MTN House freeze dried food for camping. I buy large quantities of things like oats, beans, coconut oil and canned food when they are on sale. I probably have enough food for a couple of months.

Same goes for ammo, I stack it deep in case there is another huge surge in buying. Plus with inflation it's better to buy now than later.

Back in the day they didn't call it prepping, they called it common sense. I think a collapse if very unlikely, I just buy in bulk because it's cheaper and I like to have enough food in case of emergencies.

Until a few years ago-I mighta said the same thing...But not being somewhat prepared for possible disasters is irresponsible. So many folks in the Northeast have been without power and basic needs since Sandy...because they stuck their heads in the sand and expected someone else to bail them out. Waiting there is an impending issue isn't the time.

The wife and I have bug out/ hurricane kits - Food, water storage, first aid, and tools....Plus the trucks.
We move around too much to be real serious...but when we settle there will be a solar generator, stand alone well, and lots of storage space for non-perishables and equipment.

If being a prepper means being lumped into the stereotype of that bat-shit crazy people show, nope. Not a prepper.

Good old Midwestern pragmatism. This makes me miss Illinois, my homeland.

My brother-in-law has predicted anarachy "within a year" for about as long as I've known him (he has grandchildren with my sister now).

He's good to go though.

Not batshit crazy... JIC another Sandy, Katrina, earthquake, collapse and so on happen.. You can't prepare for everything but a JIC where more than likely events will happen based on your location..

i live in Earthquake-ville. i would a fool not to be partially ready for the big one. i can live easy for a couple of weeks. probably get fat sitting around eating my food stores. figured that would be enough time to let FEMA get their shit together and come and get us.

food, water, fuel, shelter..ammo. some meds. that is about all i do.

Awe are prepared for a few weeks without power or access out, food, fuel, basic firearms. we might get tired of bathing in the creek, or eating the rapidly spoiling meet from ice box, but we keep plenty of kerosene for lamps and fresh gas for chainsaws. If need be, we can cut our way out to a state highway in a few days, assuming the trees can be cut with a 20" bar or dragged with a 1 ton military truck.

We have plenty of good fresh water, plenty of rice, beans, flour and yeast and no lack of decent game to hunt.

Yea, some of them are pretty crazy.. A little too crazy.. A bug out bag and enough food for a week is fine in my opinion.. Food for 20 people for 10 years is a bit crazy..

Some shit I got on craigslist
People lumping on this hurricane sandy shit as an excuse to prep are dumb. If you live at the beach and there's a storm coming - do something about it. You dont need to amass an arsenal of weapons and 3 yrs of canned beets and 3M suits for a goddamn hurricane. I live on the water in the NE and we've been without power a combined 3 weeks in the past three years. Its called getting a generator (not even necessary) and buying some water or filling up your tubs before the storm hits. It was hot w/o AC, but no one was cannibalizing eachother bc the power was out. Please stop with the Sandy nonsense.

2 out of 14 posts mentioned Sandy. One was generalizing hurricanes by mentioning Sandy, and the other mentioned that Sandy motivated them to prep.

Why don't you direct your anger towards him via pm?

Those guys in that last episoid were fricken nuts. One guy built an bunker under a mountain side complete with video room with tapes of russian nuclear blasts... good stuff!! Another guy and his wife hid knives under their counter tops and in back of doors incase of a zombie attack or something... and if that wasn't bad enough he had plans of setting up booby traps all around the outside of his house. Talk about fucking paranoid.
