i'm only describing myself. proof is that i only just NOW found this site. i've got a sweet simple tacoma i've had since 98. black, 4x4, not a single problem, simply the best. and it still gets the looks. but - almost 200K miles, and i'm coveting a possible '07 white extended cab 4x4 - if i can find the right one. of course i want leather, and the ability to get it hooked up to play tunes straight from the iPod. i'm open to any suggestions on - model, places to look to buy, options to select, options to stay away from, success stories/suggestions for the whole mp3 hookup, etc.

Sorry, those links are in my signature...

I am swapping trucks and then swapping engines in my new truck all in the next 3 months. ;)

I don't think you are asking for too much, but you will have to find a dealer or upholstry shop to do the leather for you. Unfortunately you can't get them in leather from the factory. (I know. It doesn't make sense to me either.)

    Good luck on your hunt!

    Cheers!

no problem about your signature... you're smart. get people lookin. and interesting about the leather. LAME. but good to know so i can stop looking for something that doesn't exist.

anyone know a ballpark of what i'd be looking at to add leather. has anyone done it? success/horror stories?

I would start by going to Toyota.com and checking out the trim packages and options, build one you like, and get a MSRP so you'll know where to start and what is available. Then if you want an '07 hop on craigs list for your area and see what you can find.

I'll be honest with you though, a 1 year old Taco is hard to find, and they cost almost as much as a brand new one. I was going to do something similar and found out that for just a couple thousand more I could get a brand new truck with 0 miles on it.

    But that's just my opinion.

    Welcome to TW.

Blockade is right...used Tacomas are too expensive. I looked into getting something used, but I'd rather spend an extra few thousand and get a new vehicle.

I'll also say that the 4 cylinder's gas mileage is very appealing. I don't think gas prices are going down and with my heavy foot, I get about 15 mpg.

Welcome to TW, I know there is a sticky about leather on TW and most people have been upgrading the factory stereo for the Ipod hook up, if you do find the "white one" would you sell the 98 ? enjoy your stay :D

yes i'd sell the 98 for sure. can't afford two tacos, nor do i need them. either trade-in or i have a couple buddies that have been saying they wanna buy it since 98. :)

thanks for the advice on buying new vs. old. i'll check it out. can a 4 cylinder tow very well? i play in a band and we haul the "band trailer" and if i got this, then i'd become "the one" who "gets" to haul the trailer. so that's why i was thinking the 6. suggestions there?

If you get the four, you'd have an excuse to not haul the trailer. 007tacoma has done a little hauling. It really depends on how much weight you're talking about.

    None currently,
I was under the impression that leather isn't available in a Tacoma?
Can anyone verify that, because I have a friend who wants to by a Tacoma, and that issue would be a deal breaker...........

I believe you are under the correct impression. But you can get anything you want in a Tacoma, if you have the money. It would be an aftermarket job and could turn out to be as good as factory.

How big is the band trailer? The 4 cylinder Tacoma is rated to tow 3500lbs.

Good luck with the shopping and welcome to Tacoma World.

My Toyota dealer offered leather as an option but the dealer is not putting it in. He simply takes the truck to Kansas City and has someone there do it for him. If I recall it was in the 1500-2000 dollar range.
