.........and to just answer the original question about fitment of oem skids for the complete uniqueness of it.......the black one fits under the TRD and curves up on the sides somewhat. The TRD is basically flat and bolts on over the black oem. Then yeah about all the other info about them being minimal protection at best and will be trashed with any serious or regular wheeling.

All great suggestions. I just don't need anything hardcore.

I was in downtown Birmingham, AL leaving a bar and went down the wrong street. I don't recall hauling arse or anything, but I hit some seriously malicious railroad tracks. The next morning I checked it out after recalling the way I bounced around in my truck going over the railroad tracks from hell and my skid plate had completely ripped from one contact point and looked like a crushed can.

After seeing it I couldn't believe there wasn't major damage. Now I just need to get something on there to keep crap from getting up in my engine. I do like the look of TRD plate, but I'm not buying the stock black just so I can install the TRD plate.

Do you have the silver TRD aluminum skid plate already? If not, don't bother spending money on it. Get a proper off road-worthy skid plate from one of the vendors listed. Before you order, confirm with the vendor that it has room for the sway bar (All-Pro skids earlier than 2010, for example, do not).

If you have the silver TRD skid plate already, it can be installed without the stock black one in place and continue to function as a splash guard for the belts and pulleys.

I did the exact same thing, got me the all pro - solid!!!! Would have helped save 20 min if someone told me to take off those stock skid arms first :) but oh well.

I don't offroad either, well I ice fish and hit large ice ridges and sometime faster than not moving but slower than F1 speeds

Thanks for posting. This is the first response I have seen that said you do not need to the black splash guard to install the silver.

Yes it will absolutely bolt on without the black skid. People have done it before

I installed mine a while ago about 2 months ago. And went through all the same questions. I have the PDF install instruction if needed.

Actually here it is from Internet I couldn't get the gap between bumper and plate to within spec good luck trying. After reading the posts it's true the thing in flimsy but you can get them cheap used and if you want it for looks it does look good IMO. This guy is making sick plates and selling them with a TRD stamped on. For about 300 shipped. Though I got my skid plate for 100 bucks off CL first link is for the skid plate second for TRD install guide.

The skid plate that has TRD stamped in it and power coated is really nice work (I think it's Canadian). The A-P was nice as well.

I've only had my truck since the beginning of March and I just have to chuckle when I see the cheesy stock plate. What were they thinking? Oh, I know - save a buck.
