After test driving a new 2013 limited with my father yesterday, I have a few more questions

*Is it true that it is NOT possible to custom order a tacoma and toyota build it? Dealer claims you have to "locate" a prebuilt one?
*Does anyone know what the limited "chrome-clad" rims look like without the chrome clad attached to the alloy rim surface? How is it attached to the rim? The reason I am asking is my father doesnt like the look of the chrome and was curious how the rim would appear if we could somehow get the chrome POS "clad" covering off.. looked like a cheap hubcap IMO.
*Is the backup camera option available on any other trim other than the limited?
*Do you guys like the navigation unit that is offered in these trucks? We have never had a car with built in navigation and honestly I dont know what is considered a "good" navigation unit.
*According to the Tacoma brochure @ the dealer, it claimed the Limited package comes withe Potenza RE050 (Max Performance Summer) tires on it. When we looked at the tires on the truck, they were NOT these tires! They were some crappy bridgestone all season tire. Does anyone know why this is? Is it because we are from the Northeast??? My father has not asked the dealer about this yet but thats ~$400 difference in tires.
*How much $ do you think my father could get selling these limited rims/tires? (he wants something more like on the offroad package or SR5).

FWIW, My father is pretty set on the Limited package because it has leather heated seats, the JBL sound system, and the homelink temp rearview mirror. The only thing he doesnt like about the package are the rims..

any advice you have is greatly appreciated! New to Tacoma trucks and I'm trying to help him find the right one!

    1. You tell the dealer what you want and they should be able to get it for you.

    2. It does come off and pics have been posted on here. Try a search.

    3. Backup camera is available on SR5 and trd packages.

    4. I really like it. It uses bing maps so updates are free. The only negative I think is you have to have a smart phone.

    5. Dealers put whatever tires they want on.

I actually was asking how much do you think he could get for selling the Limited Rims on ebay or on this forum, not the price of the truck?

    thanks!

^ I would search Ebay, Craigslist, and the Forums "for sale" area for pricing. You could even post a WTS/GI (Want to sell/Gauging interest) thread in the for sale area - to test the waters on what you could get.

I would say limited wheels would sell for $800-1000 if they were new, but what do I know.

You need to work them. As long as you don't fold to pressure easily... do this

    - Go in, work up your numbers and all that. get your deal set in stone.
    - Then throw the curveball. Tell the dealer that you will make that deal if they give you the TRD wheels instead of the chrome clad.

I just left a Toyota dealership as a salesman... If it is the end of the month, I'm gonna say 95% of dealerships will do exactly what you say, especially if you tell them they can keep the chrome clad wheels.

I say $400 or less. Unfortunately, most Tacoma owners probably feel the same way about cheap looking chrome wheels as your father does. I'd pay more for used TRD OR wheels than I would for new Limited Rims. BTW, 2013 SR5s come with stock 16" steel wheels.

On the overall question, I'd go for the unlimited if the only thing your father doesn't like is the wheels. In comparison to the leather seats, etc., new wheels are cheap.

You probably won't find a huge market for those wheels on TW

I would do the same as suggested by the previous poster and make swapping out the wheels part of the deal

For the tire information, the brochure looks wrong, looks like they copied over the tire Brand/Model from the X-Runner, which did have max performance summer tires. The Limited would indeed have a standard all season tire.

I like the Navigation/JBL system in my TRD Sport. Pretty good voice recognition for entering destinations on the fly, good sound, etc.

One thing I'll add in is that the TRD Sport has a road tuned suspension that, in my opinion, rides better for a road going consumer. Toyota should have included this with the Limited but they didn't.

Also, the seats in the Limited are not genuine leather, they're SofTex, but they are heated, which would be nice. Homelink is only available with the Limited this year. Although you could try to add it later, but it would get pricey to find the rearview camera mirror with homelink, temp, autodimming, etc.

SR5's and TRD's mirrors have temp, autodimming, compass and rearview camera. Still a nice mirror, just no homelink.

My bad. Posted on phone. I found these, but it doesn't look like they are selling.

    http://www.dragtimes.com/parts/18-2...RIMS-WHEELS-4RUNNER-TUNDRA-_140743282954.html

    http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=140743282954.

You might be able to get dealer to switch, but that all depends on dealer's rules. Some do not allow that under any reason. Good luck!

I just ended up buying a trd sport with navi and entune . I do wish they offered a leather option on the sport , but its no big deal . I hate the chrome wheels and the chrome door handles and mirrors .

we tried talking to the sales guys and they refused to do it claiming that "the vehicle comes off the truck with those rims and must be sold with this rims, it cannot be swapped with a different set of rims or the vin numbers would not match and the warrenty would be void"

I looked at him like WTF?:confused:

He kept saying "if we took those rims off that truck and swapped them for another truck's rims, then that truck would be messed up"

and said "no... if you guys purchase those rims as parts and keep the lmited rims/tires, then of anything you guys have a more expensive rim.."

and the salesman persisted to claim no they will not swap the rims/tires in any way unless we went and bought toyota rims ourselves from them

Dealers rules. Your just wasting your time arguing with him. When I bought my truck in September I asked the salesman (a I've known) to switch the sport wheels with 4run trail wheels but he said dealer won't allow it. My advise is tell your dad to get the truck he wants and switch wheels later. I plan on changing mine once my tires need replacing.

Ill help you throw it right back...

It will not void the warranty. It is a dealer installed item.

They do not have to swap rims with another truck. They can order a new set of wheels.

Ask the dealer how much it costs to purchase TRD Off Road wheels. When he gives you a price, just tell him you want them thrown in the deal then and that you will keep both sets. Dealers sell cars under invoice price all the time, don't let them make this seem impossible.

They might refuse until you are in your car about to leave. If they don't give in and you want to chance it, you can wait until the end of the month. Dealers want to sell more then the others in their district, so they do whatever they can to make it happen.

    As usual. So much misinformation.

The 13s are coming with Bridgestones. Don't know why. The dealer does not install them.
You can order whatever truck you want. Build it on Toyota.com and have the dealer order.

It took 8 weeks for mine.

So you're saying you can build a DCLB TRD Offroad ?

if the wheels are the only thing left bothering him, the dealer will swap the wheels to make the deal work.

I told my dealer to put the off road wheels on my 2012 rather than the cheesy steel ones or i wasnt buying the the truck. they swapped the wheels, it took little more than 2 minutes to discuss.

In answer to your first question...I'd think about going to a different dealer, if they don't want to order what you want. I just took delivery of my Tacoma, ordered with what I want on it

    I bought the same truck!

I wanted the Limited, until I saw it. I had a 2010 AC Tacoma that I traded in. I learned from that truck that Toyota chrome is crap. and the Limited is loaded with it.

Just say "NO" to the chrome.

As one member here has said: It looks like they (Toyota design team) played Pin The Tail On The Donkey with where they were going to put the Limited badge.

Get a loaded Sport and be done with it. Find a MGM color.

One more thing. The 2013's have a stupid smog pump that makes an obnoxious sound when you turn off the engine. It's embarrassing.
