just recently I discovered a freaky behavior with my radio volume button. No matter what direction you turn the volume button get no responses.

Normally when you turn the volume button clockwise, a volume number in the LCD screen increases and counter clockwise the number in the LCD screen decreases. In my case that one time that afternoon, no number show up on the screen and the volume just remain the same.

I got to Lowes, went inside and bought something and came back out and everything was fine. I have an 09 4cyl regular cab. Anyone experienced something similar with their radio volume button. I believe I was 100% sober that afternoon as well and the weather was not hot and was very comfortable. I think it is some sort of minor glitch and I will just brush it under the rug for the time being but just curious if others had any issue with their.

Very common problem that happens mostly on the single CD unit.
    I had the same problem.

Yup, all correct. I literally just got mine replaced under warranty about an hour ago. They actually just replace the entire head unit for you rather than trying to fix the button, but you shouldn't have trouble getting them to replace it.
The good news is that the steering wheel control still works if you've got it, in the interim.

Man Toyota is slipping. That's something I'd expect of bose, not Toyota.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Toyota probably didn't manufacture the radio. It would have been subcontracted out. The problem is Toyota takes the hit for someone else's F-up, just like the frames.

Yeah, I left mine for like 3 months or so, but finally got it fixed because it kept getting worse, and the fix was painless.

It was rare at first, then started happening about 50% of the time, then the tuner knob also started fritzing, and then sometimes it started thinking that the tuner knob was being turned when it wasn't, which was when i threw in the towel. ;)

I think you can also look foward to the radio randomly turning off and not being able to turn it back on, unintended volume changes the worse it gets. Just call the dealer, dont be a jerk about it and all should be good. :D

    Too few to list.
I've test drove a new 09 with a broken volume knob control. It was the jbl package with the 6 cd.

Old thread but just wanted to add that I now have the same problem with my 2009 TRD Sport (w/out JBL). It works about 50% of the time right now. Just got in one day and the volume knob didn't work. I still have control with the steer wheel buttons but it definitely needs replaced.

I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow.

My '09 did it once when I first got it but it hasn't done it in about about 18 mos. Weird.

I know this is an old post but I'm not sure if anyone has noticed that this seems to be affected by the bluetooth. I found this post researching the same problem.

My volume knob quits every once in a while but it's only when my cell phone is connected via bluetooth. If I disconnect the bluetooth and mess with the radio knob, it will start working just fine. I reconnect my bluetooth and everything works fine. The bluetooth is designed to temporarily disable the volume knob when you get a call and it seems like sometimes it simply forgets to re-enable it once the call has ended. This also seems to be common when I try to adjust the volume of a phone call with the knob...which doesn't work...like that causes it to stay disabled.

All in all, try to turn the bluetooth off on your cell phone and play with the knob. That's worked for me.

Interesting, but the base model (non-JBL) radio doesn't have bluetooth capability.
