Qwik Valve?

Hi all,

Curious if anyone is useing the Quick Valve to speed up the oil changes and if so do you recommend it?

Looks O.K. but have not tried it, still kind of concerned with the durability off road.

 

That looks just like a Fumoto Oil Drain valve.

 

How much time does it save? I haven't done the first oil change on my tacoma yet, so I don't know how hard it is to get to the drain plug. But if it's easy to get to, I wouldn't bother with this. It would suck when this thing fails.

If you have the factory skid plates (my OR does so not sure what package adds them) then your front skid plate would have to get ripped off before that plug would be damaged.

 

i put one of the fumoto drain valves on my truck no problems yet. i don't do any off roading (my tacoma just pounds mostly the pavement) but fumoto's website recommends a spring clamp for off roading.

the valve it spring loaded and has to be pushed up and then turned so i doubt that you'd drain your oil out easily

 

That's the way I looked at it plus a hose clip. I'm just tired of the hot oil down the arm on that last twist of the plug.

I did put one on but have not changed the oil yet since then. So far no leaking or any other problems.

 

On my firt oil change I install it on my truck... so far so good, most pavement than off road, long wait for the second oil change the truck is close to the 5500 and with synthetic oil, by middle of september I will see the first use of it. No leaks... that is enough by now.

 

Since the threads stick into the pan further, take a hacksaw and cut a X or + pattern abut 1/4 inch into the threads. Deburr with a wire wheel.

This allows the last reamaining bits of oil to drain out of the pan, so you get everything out and you don't have to wait for the slow drip.

No clearance problems on mine and it's protected by the skid plate.

I do a no lift oil change, but just getting under the car and changing the filter from the top.

Fastest and most convenient thing I did. No leaks at all. Never have to worry about stripped drain pan threads due to repetitive oil change.

Get the one with the nipple and slip a hose over it to drian directly into a bucket or back into the oil bottles you used. No messes or drips.

 

Yeah, I love that part! With my 3" I can crawl under comfortably! No jacks, stands, ramps, etc! Went to change the oil in my buddy's Ford and we had to put it on ramps. I was like wtf man? I don't have to do that with mine....

 

Yeah, I feel like I'm cheating, by not really doing any work. In the old days it was the ramp, then found out the ramp tilted my old vehicle with a plug on the side and I didn't get all the old oil out. ha ha

Then, had to do a jack, jack stands, creeper, etc.

Now, it's just done and off to the next things in the day, like napping!

 

To "FIX" the uncertainty of getting out all the oil when a Fumoto or "quick valve" is installed I used a plastic bed inflator to pump air through where the oil cap is and I get at least more oil out in a lot less time, like doing a flush.
