Now days the antennas are pretty good. I see some people just put the antenna on top of the radio in the dash and still get signal through the plastic dash.

I've got two GPS antennas, one for my Pioneer's navigation and the other for my dash cam's logger, just routed up and above the head liner. Get great signal and have never had issues. But that's a GPS antenna; that's not to say the say that a satellite radio antenna would have the same reception, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I live in Canton Ohio, As far as I know I don't have any repeaters close by that the sirius would receive signal from. I wasn't aware of the metal/magnet increasing reception.

Once I decide on a new double din navi/dvd head unit for my Tacoma I plan on rewiring my antenna placing it on the dash inside the Truck. I don't like having the antenna on the roof. Im waiting Kenwood to start shipping the new 2013 double din units.

If you try this mount, please provide feedback on how it works out for you. I am still probably a month out from doing mine.

What kind of front ends were you trying to run? I was considering it more for media than for GPS or OBDII information. It's been something I've wanted to do for a while. But with the tablets that are out these days, that may be the simplest solution. Storage is the limiting factor for me, because even in mp3 form my music will take up at least 80GB.

linuxice was the last one i started to use. there hasn't been any activity on it now for almost a year.
i'm up like 140gb of music alone. not counting my movies. what i was going to do is run a wireless router inside my truck and have a handful of externals on the network there which would be able to hold my music and ~2tb of movies.

I've considered that too. Since I still have unlimited data I was hoping I could get SSHFS to connect to my home PC while out on the road.

I already posted this on this thread but did it wrong. I have some updates on it and some things got left out. This is my brothers single cab. I will be getting this truck in a few months though:D He wants to get a bigger truck. Only downfall to that is he wants to take the three amps out. They're the Audison Av 5.1k. Which I understand, because of the price on them. Not to many people have heard of Audison but this truck sounds absolutely amazing. Its not some off the wall brand, everything is extremely nice.
The whole set up is pretty much all Audison, except for the subs. He has two 12 inch Memphis Mojo's. I dont have all the exact names of everything but its all in the picture.
The custom box he built is ported through the center console. He swapped out his bench seat for two factory bucket seats.

A guy at my dads shop took a sheet of 1.5 inch of plexiglass and cut it to start on the iPad in the dash idea. They relocated the head unit down. The next thing is to relocate the A/C controls overhead, still not done yet.

The yell because your being inconsiderate. I'm sure they have better things to do that to listen to your crappy music with too much bass.

    Grow up.

X2. If your music is that loud you deserve a noise violation citation. Nice system, but seriously, driving around city streets with it that loud is not only inconsiderate, but its unsafe. You can't hear (or see apparently) emergency vehicles around you. Your going to end up causing an accident, or could end up delaying an emergency responder cuz your in the way. Have some respect for the law and other drivers. Keep that music off the streets

Its not like we listen to it like that all the time. We rarely drive with it loud anyways. We are aware of the dangers of it, so we respect that. My brother has already been pulled over for it too. And keep what music off the street? You don't know exactly what we listen to anyways. We listen to a lot of country, In Color by Jamey Johnson hits harder than some rap and dubstep. Oh, and Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, that hits hard too. And many other older songs, country songs, alternative songs, and any type of music has bass. No one can listen that stereo all crazy for very long anyways, so its not like we just roll around town listening to it all day. Its only played at a stop for demoing to people now or just showing off for some friends. Those were just some things that happened when they first got it play. Sorry for all the butthurt I caused you.

Off topic, sort of, I guess not really considering the past couple of posts, lol. There's an O'reilly parts store right behind my house. It's cool for the most part; when I'm working on any given project and need something small I can walk around the corner and grab it and be back home in 5 minutes, but some jackass in a 2000ish Blazer apparently just likes to use the parking lot as his stereo tuning area... I'm not sure what he's packing, but at least twice a week, he's in the parking lot for 10-15 minutes at a time blaring some god awful nonsense music that you can't understand the words to and rattling every window in my house and I'm sure my neighbors for at least 2 houses down... And it's not like he doesn't know people live back here; it's a 2 story house. I can look right out my window and see the parking lot there; how do you think I know what he drives, lol.

Talked to the manager about it multiple times in there and every time he said he'll do something about it... still nothing... At this point I'm tempted to get law enforcement to help out, but I'm not sure that they'd be able to do anything considering he is in the parking lot of a commercial store, so I dunno...

It's just inconsiderate that's all. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm only 25 years old and have 800watts of music blaring in my truck, and I LOVE to listen to my rock loud, but I'm considerate about it because I know that not everyone wants to listen to my music, so I turn it down when I'm stopped at a red light, or most of the time just have my windows rolled up. I've always been a super cautious driver; I'll spot flashing lights in my rear view a LONG time before anyone else around me sees or hears them coming and go ahead and start getting over to move.

I think that's the biggest thing wrong with our society today; people are too damn inconsiderate... I held a door open to two older ladies walking out of a convince store the other day without so much as a "thank you" or even a nod from either one... want to just blurt out "YOU'RE FRIGGIN WELCOME YOUR MAJESTY!"... but my mature side kicked in and I just carried on about my business

JVC KDx40. Cheap, charges anything USB, works great with iPhone and with built in pandora, and can do any color set up. I want to add the Bluetooth adapter for wireless audio now that I have an iPhone 5 and not my old Blackberry.

How did you tie the backup camera feed into your head unit? I just bought the AVH-X5500 and have the backup camera in my mirror, however, I would like to run it to the headunit also/ instead. My camera is a factory setup by the way. Thanks in advance.

    Just a little update
Added a grill over the port, also in the process of making a mount for a motor thing that will push the piece where iPad sits in and out.

There is a thread if you search for it with instructions on how to do it. It's not to hard.
