So, I'm seeing a few head units out there that support 1 Amp output for charging via their built in USB port. The iPad mini comes with a 1 Amp charger so I guess charging via a new HU's USB port is doable.
I've still got stock audio in my single cab Tacoma and I'm just looking to put in a single DIN HU and swap out the stock speakers/tweeters with something better.
Any recommendations for a head unit with the following?
    1. Charging via built in USB port for the iPad mini
    2. Digital audio in (all audio from the iPad mini, not just music) via USB from a regular lightning cable to the iPad mini
    3. Preferably a rear USB port for a cleaner install
    4. Preferably with an iOS app that controls the head unit via the USB connection (primarily for radio station tuning)
I've been having a hard time trying to find a head unit that will do all of these (without having to use any Bluetooth), presumably because the iPad mini just hasn't been out that long, so any input from experience would be greatly appreciated.
(Looking for something like the the Scosche SCDBTA60 but it doesn't ouput enough power for charging and no rear USB port.)

Look into high end pioneer or Sony

Other than the Scosche, does any HU do number 4?

EDIT: Looks like Sony does it on a few models for two-way control (control HU via app, control select apps via HU): http://www.sony-asia.com/support/compatibility/512640

    Sony didn't offer much help.
They just said, "I'm sorry to inform you that Sony does not currently offer a single DIN media Receiver with the features you're looking for."

Wow, Pioneer was even less help.
Received an email back saying that I needed to call them in order for them to answer my question and after waiting on hold for 20 minutes the guy refuses to give me any input and just says "we don't have anything that's compatible with an iPad." Haven't gotten that upset with a CSR in a long time...

That app just capped this whole thing off. Especially if it works with the thing horizontal. It would be sick if we could come up with a app that sets up a GUI to tie up the nav, phone, and radio controls in one to look like a oem unit

Looks like ill be starting my build all over after seeing that video! That looks a lot easier and will be way easier for you guys to really plug and play without drilling any holes or mounting hinges etc. see that's how I wanted my single din mounted behind the iPad! Literally he took the build out of my head and built it......unbelievable and that app just gave me a B-B-B-BONERRRr!! Haha I love Sony decks they are awesome and best bang for buck IMO unless you have going for pure SQ then alpine or pioneer takes the advantage good find guys

    Gawd I'm getting antsy...

I'm gonna be "that" guy and say I'm gonna hold out until March/April in hopes that there will be another one and it will have retina display...

So as long as I have one of these in my truck in next few months, I'll be a happy man...

The Sony is awesome, but I can tell more is on the way. iPads in cars was pretty popuar, and with the mini its seems to be ramping up even faster. I can't wait to see some of the installs in the coming years...

Are you followng the rumors? I hear the refresh at 6 months (April/May) is looking like a real possibility!

That should make the build much easier. No reason to have the iPad behind the iPad now. I went to bestbuy and played with the Single Din deck and it is awesome. Charges the iPad mini just fine. The only downfall is that the app is made for the iPhone, but sony tech support has told me that they will soon have a native iPad app.

Oh ya... I eat that stuff up! Latest thing to come out at CES this week is set for March... But it's all rumors for now... I'm intrigued, to say the least...

I didn't like the fact that the mini's PPI is even lower than the iPhone 3GS and that they also took a step backwards with the 512MB of RAM but I played with it and decided it wasn't too bad. My plan is to just keep it in pristine shape and resell it when the 2nd gen mini comes out....:D

I could have sworn that someone posted on here that they found an app that would let you tune in radio stations. I've gone back through the thread and can't seem to find it. It wasn't Iheart or the other one.

Lol, I don't really know... I started this thread asking if anyone has done this... Then he replied here then started his own thread for the install... So there is 2 threads that are alive right now... I'll try and find the other one...

Man I like this idea but I don't want to pay for a data plan. If I could just get what I wanted without the internet, I would be good to go. AAAAHHHHHHH!!!
