    ^^ Was camping along the shore of NW Tasmania where the weather first hits the island, had an Ambien in me, and woke up to howling winds and rain. Had to lash my tent (had them on the inside, thankfully) to try and keep it from shaking, with marginal success on that. The rain just soaked up through the floor, too. Was a loooooong night...... lolol

    That happened to me in South Texas, Port Aransas area right on the beach. There was like a typhoon that seemed to last hours. There were 2 couples and a single guy we packed it up and got a hotel room. The single guy obviously went back to the tent after the rain stopped. We stayed in the hotel though..... staying dry...

    Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a 54qrt coleman steal belted cooler. I been looking at new ones (~$140) but the reviews seem to be negative with weak latches and bases bending if someone sits on them. I saw one in person too and it seemed pretty light duty.
    I started looking on craigslist for the 1970's model and they are around the $80 price range for a decent condition one.

    What would be the best long term investment? Would the older style outperform the new ones?

    imho.... go with the older one... I think coleman's quality has gone to hell. I love their older products because they are so well built. We still have a coleman 2 burner stove, lantern, and a few other products from back in the early 90s that still work like a champ..... I bought a newer coleman lantern and the thing was done and in the trashcan after 1 yr and only a few trips..

    Like this one? My folks have had one for a few years and its held up well - not sure about the quality of the current ones though. The only thing I don't like about it is the latch, it can be a little picky sometimes and you don't ever, ever want to force it closed as you could bend it and then you have no way to lock the lid down.

    I am going to be shopping for a new sleeping bag soon - nothing wrong with my current -10* bag, I just want something in the 20* to 30* range.
    I would prefer a synthetic, rectangular or semi rectangular bag. Any suggestions?

    The Big Agnes bags look nice and are near the top of my list. Any experience with this brand?

    I looked at them and seriously considered getting one. The internal sleeping pad is one of the big reasons to buy. The down side is there is no insulation on the bottom half of the bag as the pad is the insulation. I tend to keep my bag open and use it more like a blanket so I want insulation on both sides.

    If you always zip the bag up, then it's a great way to go. The pad being in the bag keeps you and the bag from rolling off. Bag is well built and comfy.

    yeah but you're from the south, you're not used to the MT cold ;)

    are all of the BA bags like that? I thought it was only select models....I'll have to do more research.

    Undecided on that :eek: AND I haven't even gotten to use it. :laugh: If I do get rid of it I will pass it on to another TW'er

    Working on designing a rack now and one of the local guys will be building it for me. Trying to keep it simple

    I don't know. The reason I was looking at it was for the ability to integrate the sleeping pad (which is pretty comfy btw). When I realized it came w/o insulation, I realized it wouldn't work for me so I stopped looking at them.
