I have liked Tacoma 4x4's since Marty McFly drove one in 1985. Tried to buy one a few times and the payments or timing (or the truck.. one I think was flood damaged.. or at least one headlight was full of water!) just never worked out until this weekend.

Bought a new 2013 grey metallic double-cab TRD sport 4x4 with the 4.0 v6, and the entune/nav/audio system with bilstein shocks etc etc.. I freakin' love this truck. It exceeds my expectations which were pretty high.

The only issue I have had was the stupid supplemental alarm system Longo Toyota installed that made the horn honk with the toyota chirp on lock and unlock which annoyed the F*$%CK out of me.

Thanks to info on this site, I fixed that problem and figured I might as well sign up since I'm at least going to be lurking around here for a while.

    C'ya around!

I'm a lifetime gearhead and strangely enough mods is actually my middle name. Got a few to recommend and a priority list? A buddy at work with the first year 2nd Gen Taco (2006?) is bugging me to go spend a ton of $$ to get a supercharger which I am not sure is worth the big money for the hp/torque gains. Especially when I can't find a snorkel that doesn't negate those gains... seems expensive and pointless for an offroader?

Believe me I tried! I like this site but either I'm too dumb or they don't want to host uploaded pics which is LAME. Hopefully it's just me.

I guess I could go sign up for a photobucket account or some crapola like that and provide a link but that is 1000x more effort than should be needed in 20 freaking 13. I clicked the "attach image" icon on original post and it's like, "ok, give me the link to pictures" instead of giving me the option to cut and paste or upload from my pc.

There were two at the dealer when I got mine with identical msrp's and color/features. Here is the one that had a few more miles on it that I didn't buy:

I am also adding an image to see if I figured out how to attach to a post on this site...

I also have the cheap alarm the dealer installed, just kept it in and activated it even though they would take it out for me. It chirps with the horn beep as well.

So I did the thing where you insert then remove the key, then put back within 5 seconds and turn to ON without starting the truck. Then wait for 10 seconds and hit the same button on the RKE twice and that worked if you are trying to enable or disable the chirp but not the HOOOOOONNKKK HOOOOOOOONNNNKKKK that pist me off so bad. To fix that it was keep driver door shut, turn the ignition on, then off, then on and hit the little hidden button behind the blue (some people have red) led down by the hood release 6 times (mine was like 10 times) until it gives audio feedback that it has changed. It says on the window sticker it has a VIP alarm and I think the dealer installed a "karr" or similar supplemental alarm as well and it has an led with a button. The first instruction turns off the toyota chirp(which I liked and kept) but the 6+ button pushes turned off the HOOOOOONK which was awesome! My neighbors certainly appreciate it and I don't feel like a total ass unlocking my truck late at night or early in the morning now.

Marty McFly drove a Toyota pickup. The Tacoma didn't exist until 1995.

So its possible to keep the alarm funtional without the horn. At 1st I didnt mind the Horn but now its getting on my nerves everytime unlock and lock the truck. So just turn ignition to on then push the led button six times?

Very true.. but it's clearly a relative/ancestor. I'm not 100% sure, but they always called it the Hilux in some areas outside of the US right? Should be the same thing.

Yessir, although I found 4-5 different sets of instructions online. The service guy at my dealer said that I couldn't do what I wanted to do and they would have to reprogram the alarm computer to just remove the honk. I'm a stubborn ass and didn't believe him.. sure enough that next one worked. :) Instructions I found said keep door closed which I did and hit the button 6 times but nothing happened until I had hit it at least a few more times than that. Instructions also said it had to be complete within 10 seconds.

I like knowing how to turn off the toyota alarm chirp but for now I like it and the flashing lights to let me know. I know the alarm is being set because I tried hitting the lock button with the window down and unlocking/opening the door and it set of the alarm.

Hilux = Pickup until 1995. Toyota then spun off the Tacoma for NA.

Basically the same truck, but with a more pliant frame to improve ride quality and handling at the expense of payload. Oh, and no diesel engine options.

Want to be a little annoyed? Note that the current model Hilux gets ~26mpg in diesel trim and has a 1-ton (yes, 2000lb) payload, give or take a little. You can thank EPA emissions standards and CAFE for our somewhat neutered US trucks.

In any event, they have shared DNA. All the models have been getting progressively more car-like as time goes by, but not all of those changes are bad.
