I ran my lift for about three weeks before I installed the diff drop. Never had any vibration issues, but I did like the decreased angles from the CV boot perspective. I'll just have to find a good place that reboots and try to keep them clean in the meantime.

 

To be honest the diff drop does not matter on our trucks. If you do the boot slide mod to keep the cv boot fins safe, and don't have your shit jacked up to like 4" of lift.

And whoever said they'd rather take a hit to the stock skid than remove the diff drop... I really hope you don't wheel. The stock skid will not do anything if you smash a rock. You will probably end up breaking your support arms like mjp2 did

That can be done by just cutting off the Oem hose clamps and sliding the boot a bit and putting on a new hose clamp.

 

I think many people are mislead and think that you NEED a diff drop to correct IFS driveline geometry. I definitely thought that until I talked to a few more people around the site. I still need to do the boot slide mod.
Oh and Elk340 doesn't wheel much, unless thats where the hunt takes him. But I agree with Jlink in that the stock skid only tells you that you are about ready to destroy something important on your truck. I will go with the peace of mind of skids any day.

 

You're right Travis, I don't "wheel". Only while hunting do I find myself doing any mild wheeling. I will never be in a position where I am up in the air high enough to drop the truck down onto a rock or carelessly run one over going too fast. Most of the time I'm crawling at a snail's pace and will hear the "clank" and be able to stop before any damage is done.

Make sure you do the boot slide mod if you haven't already Travis. I did and it reduced the rubbing on the boot fins even with a diff drop.

 

Should I paint my skids or not?

For those who haven't been following along.. Got the ATO Front mid and Tcase skids. Debating on painting them or not. I know that surface rust will get to them without paint, but I don't really care how they look. They are there to get damaged. If I do paint them, it will be with flat back paint (basically black primer).

Help me out here guys.

It will save you a big pain in the ass later on down the road to just paint them now. Cause if you dont you will have to take them off and wire brush them to keep em from rusting through.

 

Good advice guys, I am just lazy and spray paint doesn't work for shit when its cold outside. I guess I'll just try to keep the paint and the skids inside and wait for a semi-warm day.

Did you already recieve All your skids you plan on ordering/installing Travis or is there anything left that you still wanna cover??

 

I may do a gas tank skid but I already have my LCAs and diff covered and now the front t case and tranny! Now sliders NEED to happen

 

Definitely paint them. I touch mine up after every time I wheel. Doesn't matter how they look, but you don't want them rusting. You could always use roll on paint if you don't have a warm enough day for spray paint. I use rustoleum dual satin black spray paint for my skids, sliders, and bumpers.

 

Stay tuned for a pretty sweet mod coming up in the next week or two. And I'm just waiting for a few warmer days to paint the skids before I put them on!

 

Just put down over $1500 on:
ARB locking rear diff
ARB HD compressor
ARB pump up kit
New carrier bearings
Ubolt flips
new rear shock mounts

!!!
And it should be done and installed 3 days before I start my spring break! Plenty of time to put that new shit to work and find out if there are any kinks before Moab!

Oh yeah I got the ATO skid painted and should be putting them on in the next few days. I have been saying that for a while, but these bitches are heavy and I just need some help because I don't wanna be the only one around if I am underneath one of these and it falls off the jack.

Yeah I am lucky to be able to, It won't always be like this. I get frustrated at the people that don't appreciate when they have the ability to do something like this. I am very thankful that I am so fortunate. I know this isn't as good of use of money as an investment, but In a way, it is an investment. I am investing in good times that I will be having with my family for years to come.
