sooo finally getten rid of my corolla (the credit builder) for a new DBL cab 4x4 tacoma long bed 4x4 and was appraised at 9K as for a trade in and financing looks good on a new tacoma, found one at the dealer and it was nice, lifted, tires, speedo re cal kinda a jumpstart in the direction i wanna go, but price is 36K, i originally wanted to go brand new ordered not messed with at all, so that means stock everything n pay her off then go for the aftermarket fun....jus curious as what other's opinions on this dilemma, it would be kinda nice to have it lifted while i pay it off (5 yrs) but it's gonna be parts imma change later prolly or go boring out the gate n build up n get exactly what i want, originally i was gonna pick n choose options...dosent look like it's gonna happen that way now, wantesd rubber mat's n basic other things, aftermarket will make those options obsolete ......sooo $500 payments or a lil more per month to get that "image"....opinions needed:D

Unless its get the exact add ons you want. I would buy stock and build it how you want. Also paying for mods for 5 years crappy.

I would do credit union financing I got 1.29 on 60 months better then setf would offer... My first taco was an 09 base model reg cab nothing for options and I loved it until I pulled my 12 taco double cab 4 banger off the lot... Mines a Dd and its not 4x4 but I still love it...

I understand not wanting used but if you start with a new base you can really customize it into your own build

Matthew, so far what these guys have failed to bring up is that the mods that are currently on the truck may not be what you want later on. Have you already sorted out what you intend to do with the truck and if so what are the "correct ways" to make those modifications? I bring this up as I have seen new trucks on showroom floors with blocks and spacers which while cute, aren't indicative to safety and additional offroad prowess.

With that said, I think that if you take a bit of time here on these forums checking not only the "member vendor" section but searching for threads about that type of modification you may very well find that you can find the parts that you would prefer for the same price or even less than what the dealer is offering. Remember, if they did something to the truck to add value, they are making a profit off of that change.

In the end the decision is yours and I hope that you decide with your wallet and not your emotions, lots of great people here that are willing to offer you genuine assistance in finding the answers you are looking for. Welcome aboard and don't forget to show us pictures once you bring yours home.

I bought my 2012 double cab prerunner 9 months ago off the lot for 29500 otd. You have to let them know your really want it but can only pay what you say and thats it. They told me no at 29500 otd so i said ok and walked out.... Four freeway exits on the way home they called me back and told me to turn around. Also, if you go on the last day of the month ( what i did) they are more likely to give you a deal because every month they have to meet a quota and if your lucky they will need your sale, and you can bargain more. Just whatever you do dont cave in and pay a ridiculous price. and buy the base model because they tax you hard for shitty parts that your gonna change later anyway if you wanna hit they dez hard. Point of the story dealerships are fucking wack. They had no idea how to do a lt kit on my truck and wanted over 2k for install. Booty son

Depending on your loan. You might need a cosigner. Two years of credit history is not enough.

As for buying new. I would prefer to buy new unless I know where the used car is coming from.

36k, holy f*ck!! I wouldn't pay that ever! I bought mine brand new for $29,500 OTD TRD off road 4WD 6 Spd manual access cab 2011. Even the new ones I've looked at lately aren't much more than 30-31k new loaded.

First thing I would do is go get the invoice price for the truck(s) you are looking at (Edmunds, MSN Autos, etc.). There is no reason that you should pay more then a few hundred over invoice. Only reason would be if it was a model that is hard to get, or sells extremely well in your area. Then assuming you are financing, which it sounds like you are, visit a few financial institutions (banks, CUs, and dealers) and look for the best financing deal. Keep in mind, that a financing org may tack on insurance and other "fees" so make sure you ask. Sounds like you also have the trade-in value understood, but you might double check to be sure you are getting a reasonable deal. Then you have the ammunition to go truck hunting as you know what you should pay and what financing looks like. Get informed, or get screwed! Dealers love the uninformed!

I went to 5 dealers and asked them to give me their lowest price on exactly what I wanted....which was easy as I just built it online. And I asked them to to say to me, "Dave if you find one cheaper don't call back cuz we can't and won't go any lower"

This saved me all that hard work of dickering back and forth. Do this late in the month, preferably at the end of a toyotathon thing. Some dealers wouldn't play that game so you replace them with a different one, don't even engage them in their game, make them play your game. Much lower anxiety and saves laods of time. I made my first call on Friday morning and purchased on Saturday, had my truck Tuesday. I paid a few hundred over invoice.

finance through a bank or credit union Those finance guys at the dealerships are horrible trying to sell you all those little extra "care packages" they say you will need right after the salesman said "you can't beat the dependibility of this thing".

no co signer, did my first loan with out one, they happy as long as i have a good enough job n they set me with a high enough interest rate..(which was horrible) i make enough and iam having enough as a down payment sooo maybe the reason as to why no cosigner... guessing here:rolleyes:
