have you looked at the KTM X-Bow or Ariel Atom?
not sure about smog, but those things are sick... better power-to-weight ratio than Ferrari or Bugatti Veyron!

the atom and ktm are awesome, but they're more of a track car.

question, SAS or diesel swap first?
most likely i won't be able to do them at the same time, so i'm thinking get the power first so i'm not driving around a gutless wonder.

but i'm not sure if the front suspension could take the weight of the diesel.

yes have driven and atom, the Ultima wrecked its time on the top gear track plus they are not allowed in the US. the X-bow I have never looked at, the ultima is nice as they have support in the US and my LS3 in the crate will bolt right in.

Ca. and getting a cert for road worthiness is 6 per year, AZ is unlimited. Ca has a sniffer only portion and Az is Zip to smog. A good friend has 2 in the Phoenix area. I would like to built my next toy actually.

thats awesome that you got to drive one .. so cool!

The X bow is close to the Atom in looks and overall concept, just made by KTM with an Audi turbo motor in it.

My Step dad who raced for Ford over 40 years had suggested a factory 5 kit and go back to my roots with a Ford power plant, of course im sure his connections would net a free engine and management system.

Although the high rpm sound of a push rod engine is nasty.

Dont get me wrong, the Atom is insane, and has "0" vises, however we in the US(DOT) and cars are very anal. btw the atom I drove beat my best time in my 2012 z06 around infineon in norcal.

yeah, DOT and especially CA is pretty lame.

I heard most exotics (limited production runs and super-rares) get a special registration that limits their annual mileage to something insane like under 2000 miles because the manufacturers don't want to build 50+ vehicles just for NTSB crash testing

yes, however a kit car built by an individual, and yes you have to supply images of the build process with the residence in the pic is unlimited mileage, but only 6 certs are granted per year

I could buy a used one, but then I have to deal with the possibility of a Muppets work. also beside the crash compliance's you have to take one to 500k miles before certing by the feds

HOLY COW!!!! Major flexing in that Taco, Might have to look into those. Finally got around to ordering some armor too :) CB is also installed and good to go. Might look into a 2 meter down the line since that seems to be the direction everyone is going.

Nice! ya belly armor is worth every penny, awesome on the CB, before you go VHF, maybe consider your Ham license so you can take FULL advantage of vhf and such? Its easy really it is, Chris ( csjumper) too or whoever, get your tech tickets, its nice to have more options for comms.

other option for a kit car is Factory5, Wife said she would be my pass seat cam chick although this redhead does nicely... her face at the end when he really lays in to it over a longer time says it all.
