Probably a zillion threads on this, but is there a link to a list off parts needed to switch from a 4.0 auto prerunner to an auto 4wd ? I can and will do all the work... I have done five swaps from a 1jz/supra to a SBC swap into a 240. No worries in flaming for noob thread, but at least send me in the right directio.

I've read up on this as well and there are more differences between a Prerunner and a 4x4 from the 05+, it requires ALOT of fabrications and i found it to be too much of a headache to consider, i think the thread was on TTORA i believe but dont quote me

SAS is a bit of fab and new parts, oem IFS parts is all bolt in...IFS parts used in good condition from a salvage yard could be around 3-5k. Try and google my other thread on TTORA for the first half.

You will have to swap in a 4wd transmission, or use the Inchworm '05+ prerunner adapter with a 4wd tranny tail-housing. Then you can use an FJ cruiser manual shifting transfer case.

    Then you will need:
    Front Diff
ADD wiring to activate front diff (might not need it with FJ Case? check out Rock Solid Toys)
    C/V axles
4wd hubs to swap into the spindles
etc., can't remember off the top of my head.

With a 4x4 transmission you will have to fab a new crossmember.

Here is a thread on about the swap with the 4x4 tranny and marlin taco box:

So if I were to buy a totaled 4x4. It would be easier then correct? Every thing would be bolt on then? As far as trading it in, I am still upside down in it so that is not an option. Take into consideration I am not afraid of wiring or fabrication. I am in the middle of this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361840224.261112.jpg

I paid $1500 for a donor 4x4 that rolled over like a log. the whole drive train was still good, while the only frame damage was under the tailgate. the cab was pretty smashed in, but I didn't need anything from it.

I also pulled all of the 4wd wiring out of the main harness. not too bad, maybe 25ft overall.

Nice MK3, I had one for a few years and sold it after rebuilding the engine..put about 300 miles on it

If he still has the OEM spindles in I don't think he will need to get new ones. I believe the prerunner and 4x4 have the same spindles, the prerunners just have a cap over the hole that our cv's go through. Pop out the cap and you can put the cv through it.
